I bought two of the Kaito KA500's but I haven't played with them because I'm still deployed.
I bought the external antennas for both. I bought them because they had less complaints (from what I found) compared to Eton. I really believe most of these people are trying to get reception in their basement from a 18" antenna.

I chose the Kaito because it is wind-up and Solar. I also got them of Amazon for $35 each. I don't need a radio with high volume or crystal-clear sound. I just need to be able heard and understand the news cast.

I'll try and do a review after I get to play with it.

    Radio needed

I just bought a Kaito windup radio, I would not recommend the radio. The volume switch doesn't work well.
If I buy another radio it would be an Eton(sp?) look on ebay they are less than 30 bucks with shipping if you shop around.

My question is which one would you buy between these two?:

I'm having a hell of a time finding a QUALITY radio!looks like all the solar/crank styles aren't worth shit for the most part.I found some radios that are nice(great reviews ect..)but they don't have NOAA bands. How important do you guy's consider the weather bands?A.M/F.M/S.W good enough???I'm looking for a home/backpack sized unit, and a small hanheld to fit in a chestrig mag pouch.

I thought about getting a couple GL-4's from County Comm... for my smaller kits and vehicles.
