    Stag Arms Left Handed ARs

I am a left handed shooter that has been shooting right handed ARs for quite some time. I always was afraid that I would never be able to sell a left handed AR if I had to (family emergency, etc.). This week I finally gave in and bought a new left handed AR (Stag Model 4L) that was in stock at a local shop for $650. My new Stag Model 4L appears to be very well made, but it did not come w/ an ambi safety or mag release. Stag does sell them on their website, but it seems odd that a left handed model would not have a left handed mag release. How hard is it to install a ambi mag release? I am very happy w/ my decision to buy a Stag & the lifetime warranty relieves any of my quality concerns. Does anyone else shoot Stag left handed ARs?

Changing out the mag release is super easy! The latch is literally just screwed into the button, so all you have to do is unscrew the two.

I do fear that the lack of ambi controls is going to be the least of your issues, though... I hope the rifle works out for you.

Mag release is stupidly simple to replace. Just use something to push in the mag release far enough the part on the brass ejection side is far enough out to unscrew. Put new mag release in via that side with the spring on it and start screwing in.

For the mag release you have the kac which is my personal favorite, the norgon which I've used and is pretty good, and the troy which I haven't personally used yet.

Safety isn't much harder. You unscrew the grip a little and with the hammer back the safety should come out when the grip is loose enough to allow the pin and spring that hold it in to release. Once again you can get it from pretty much everywhere. I think most of my rifles have lmt ambi safeties but a few have the stag.

Past that enjoy the rifle. I've used the left handed stag uppers in the past and besides the 6.8 which I had issues with I liked them.

Edit: That is a left handed carry handle(screws are reversed so the front one doesn't block the dust cover from fully opening) so you don't want to loose it. You can use a normal one but I'd keep an hold of that one.

Read the thread Iraqgunz pointed you towards. If nothing in there bothers you, enjoy the heck out of your new rifle. If you can't live with your new rifle (or think you'll regret it later, even if you don't now), I'd sell it while it's still in like new condition, or at least try to sell/trade the upper.

My first AR was a Stag lefty carbine, and I bought it with very minimal experience with the AR-15 platform. I bought the marketing hype. "Finally somebody has made an AR for ME!" Once I started using it, and shooting others' standard ARs I found that the "problems" that come from firing standard ARs as a lefty didn't bother me a bit. What DID bother me was having a novelty, boutique rifle with a sole source for replacement parts, none of which are available in mil-spec quality.

If you're educated about what you have, and it meets your needs then I'm happy for you and wish you the best with it. I just want to show you a perspective you may not have seen yet, the way I wish someone had for me when I bought my Stag. It would have saved me some time, and resale value on my upper.

I still have my Stag lower, and it has given me no problems. It came from the factory with an ambi selector, but I installed a Norgon Ambi-Catch in it. Both of those parts are very easy to install with common tools most anybody has at home.

Don't see the relevance of this link. I wanted a left handed AR & Stag/CMT is the only mfg that I have found.

Actually, the thread IG linked to was to help the OP, not bash his purchase. That thread clearly states that most models for plinkers are fine. And if you own a RRA, Bushmaster, Stag, etc., that there's a few simple things you can do to assure it's reliability, especially for defensive/offensive purposes.

I don't see IG or the linked thread saying you need to buy any particular model. All I see is it saying to assure your rifle's reliability, and here's how.

Proven combat techniques may not be flashy and may require a bit more physical effort on the part of the shooter. Further, they may not win competition matches, but they will help ensure your survival in a shooting or gunfight on the street. ~ Paul Howe

He already said the quality doesn't bother him, and is happy with his purchase.

Just because someone comes on with a new AR that isn't left hand charted I don't see the reasoning behind always linking them to that thread. Now, if he came here saying "Look guyz at my new stag arms!!! its all milspec and stuff, the military even uses them!! good buy right??>>" ,I would understand.

To me the constant bashing of people that buy "inferior" carbines on this forum is getting old, especially by the more revered members. I am part of the group that says "not everyone needs everything perfect in their rifle", so that's my opinion. I understand this site is more for those who take AR and weapon use in general seriously, but this near constant and consistent disparaging of those who have less than perfect rifles is getting ridiculous.

Would this guy be better served by a DD, BCM, or Colt? Probably. Does he NEED one? Maybe. Is he happy with HIS purchase with HIS money, it appears so.

It's preatty easy to install most lower parts. If you plan on buying another AR there are some better choices for the same money, or close to it. I would check them out before making your next purchase. Just my Opinion.
