If it was one of the older ones, all should be fine. Check some things on it when received. The trigger bar, will split in the rear and other that visual, extremely gritty trigger pull. The decocking barrel-look at the rear portion right in the center above and below the firing pin for cracks, we used to get afew of these--even brand new ones(extreme from one breaking?-full auto, hope your hanging on tight!) Yes I've seen it for you doubters. The sear release lever, look on the left side of the slide by the decocker and you will see a red dot. Cock the hammer and decock it with the lever--SLOWLY, it should decock before reaching that dot,if not the sear release lever needs replacing.
Edit-forgot one,the ejector, with the slide open, look in the ejection port and you will see two levers that are attached to the frame. Look at the longest one and you will see a small "scallop" on it, you should have at least an 1/8" of lever in front of that scalloped portion. That's a general indicator of it being worn. The extractor, hopefully it's ok, good luck finding a replacement and have fun fitting it.

All in all, if you want it,get it, otherwise buy a Glock

Don't worry about the trigger play spring if it's even still there,I could never tell the difference with or w/o it.

Quality control went out the window towards the end of our time with the and the DAO's and we went to Glocks.

Don't use or get a stainless steel firing pin it will break. If you can replace the decocking barrel with a blued 69 series one along with the bobbed 69 series hammer. And don't be afraid to take a file and sand cloth to those dang sharp edges.

I've won 6 guns with an issued 5906 and get this -a 6946(DAO) Including 14th in the world postal shoot. There was an IPSC qualifier years ago called Hammer Time-took some time but I cleaned it with one. (8 targets 7 yards out in a semi circle, four on each side) on signal, draw and engage the first four two shots each, mandatory reload and repeat on last 4, Virginia count with fixed 6 second time. The gun can be run if you work with it, of course I cracked 4 frames getting there and countless 1000's of rounds of NATO ball!

    S&W 5906

Any reason not to order S&W 5906 from CDNN? $299+ $18 shipping and $35 for FFl transfer = $352 OTD. This seems to be the average price on Gunbroker and the reviews of the guns from CDNN seems to be pretty good.

They are police trade-in and show some wear but people on other forums who have ordered theirs look almost new.

I ask b/c I am leery of ordering a gun online and I have never owned a 5906.

If the views are favorable i will order one today.

    Thanks.

5906s are decent guns. I had one for a while and it shot great and had high capacity. With average sized hands I found the grip was too large to be comfortable, and it just never felt right for manipulating the controls and firing. I would suggest finding one that you can handle yourself before buying.

I wanted it b/c i though it would be trouble free. I dont think that i want to go that far out on a limb. I sold my 1911 so i think i will buy a boatload of ammo and other supplies. thanks.

No pistol will be trouble free, although some will have a low percentage of issues. You may get lucky and get a like/as new one or get the guy's who worked at the range.

Truth be known, most people can't afford to wear out a Lorcin. I don't know how much you can shoot. I'm partial to Glocks and that's why I mentioned it. Truth hurts also, if you had a 1911, fiddling with a gun isn't a big deal.

My 1911 was trouble free after spending many nights tinkering with it and eventually I just got tired of it. I do have a 19 and love it I just wanted a steel gun that would be more of a toy that I abuse and use. I decided not to buy at this moment and invest that ammount in ammo. Truth be told that will serve me better than a new gun.

Good choice on the 19, keep it simple and train. If you buy another gun, get another 19.
Speaking of simple, put some Warren 3 dot's on there and leave it be.
