    Rem 700 5R range report

I bought a new Rem 700 5R 20inch threaded barrel. It has the HS Precision greenish spider web stock. I topped it off with a 6.5-20X50 Ziess Conquest that had never really found a good home. Lastly I screwed on an AAC BRAKEOUT, which worked quit well taking the edge off the zero cushion stock. It shot very softly, most enjoyable to squeeze that trigger. Markm and I were shocked when the the muzzle device actually timed perfect with no spacers and all the bullshit that drives you crazy. For mounts I went with Seekins base and 1inch Rings. We were concerned about the 50 bell fitting with low 1 inch rings, it fit perfect. After everything went together as planned. We laughed thinking, shit was going too good, this son of bitch better not shoot 3 MOA "out of the box".

Well, the Rem 700 did not disappoint. It shot just about every load Markm cooked up for us to try, and delivered MOA performance.
One 200 yard group had 4 in one ragged hole with another .75 inches away. We dumped some surplus shit out of my M1A on steel after it shot a 4 inch group on paper. We had 3 rounds left over and I thought, let's see what the Rem 700 will do. It shot a damn 1.25 inch group, it may have been 1 inch.

That 5R barrel also kept POI very close on all loads. There wasn't a single load that was over 3 inches off center at 100 yards. I was pretty impressed. Markm chime in and share a few photos when you get time.

It's a rifling that has 5 lands and grooves so no two lands are opposite one another. It's supposed to do all kinds of wonderful.... less bullet deformation, shoots a wider selection of loads accurately, etc.

5R is a style of rifling. It's 11.25" twist, with 5 lands cut at 65* instead of the standard 90*.

No dude is going to get shot in the chest at 300 yards and look down and say "What is that, a 3 MOA group?"

It's Rio Salado Shooting Range/Sportsmans Club in Mesa, AZ.

You can get out to 200 with paper, and they have steel at 200 and 300 yards on the main range.

This! ... but you can get it in different twists as well. Basically 5R signifies the 65 degree shoulder on the grooves.
