    Power/energy/protein bar

Looking for something to start my day with. I want to get back into running but don't want to do it on an empty stomach, and don't want to be in the kitchen all morning. Needs to have NO fake sugar (aspertame, sucralose, whatever). Do not care if it's "fattening". Needs to taste good as I'm not going to ingest nasty shit just to ingest nasty shit.

Suggestions? I eat the Clif bars now but am kind of burned out on them and was hoping for something a little different.

I was going to say Clif bars, lol.

I need to get back into eating those. Been pigging out on other crap. I've tried a few energy bars and always found the Clif bars to taste the best. Everything else either has a bunch of synthesized crap in it, or tastes like asshole.

Curious to know what else is out there, too.

I will also say, I wouldn't be opposed to some kind of "energy" bar if such a thing exists. Would love to skip my coffee in the morning too if I could.

The Powerbar "fruit smoothie" bars are good. The creamy citrus tastes like an orange julius. Doesn't look like they have any fake sugar. http://www.powerbar.com/products/16/...nergy-bar.aspx

My early pre-run meal is usually:

shake with 1 scoop chocolate whey + instant coffee + 8oz water
    &
1 slice wheat bread, PB and banana

I eat then get all my running gear together, then head to the trail/track/gym.

You could also add a scoop of unflavored whey to 8-12oz of your favorite juice.

I can't take in that much stuff that early in the morning, and the only way I'm going to run is if it's in the 5:30-6:30 window I have open in the morning.

I'm looking to get up @5, take a bar and a bottle of water to walk the dog, come back, and head out for a run.

I usually make my own protein bars, honey, protein powder, peanut butter and oatmeal = yummy stuff.

As for getting ready for running maybe the running "goo" packs that running stores sell?

Can you give a little more info on your homemade bars. How do you prepare them etc..

Check out the ProtiDiet brand. See if it fits your profile.

They taste really good. Were recommended by a nutritionist.

    Clif Bars for Kids

I don't know for sure and may be wrong here but I grabbed a couple of Zbars that were chocolate brownie flavored. They are sort of snack bars but have some nutritional value and taste better than regular Cliff bars (which I eat at least one every other day I'd say...) when I am burned out.

ETA: I usually grab 2 of the kids bars cuz I r a big dood.

i like these, but they're expensive.
    http://www.kindsnacks.com/kind-store/buy-kind-bars

bars are convenient, but they sometimes have stuff in them i don't want and many are too sweet, so i just create my own mixture of 'trail mix'.
another option is just to have a can of nuts (i like cashews, almonds etc) and a bag of dried blueberries, mix them and eat a couple of handfuls instead of a bar. that's why i do sometimes as i get to work before 6am and may not have time to eat until 8, so i need something just to keep me going till breakfast.
