    Artificial Sweeteners

Do you avoid them? Do you feel they affect your health? I'm debating if I want to cut them out of my diet.

Well we are on it- thoughts on fluoridated water and aluminium in deodorant? Bad, neutral...

    Thanks

ALL artificial sweeteners make me sick in some way or another. Aspertaim, Equal, Sweet & Low, and the other one (Yellow package). The make me short of breath and put a funny tingle in my throat. The very little amount of soda I drink, I will take the sugar of a regular instead of a diet soda. Same goes for coffee.
Water, I rarely drink tap water.
    Deodorant, I need it..

I am sure artificial sweeteners are bad for you, but not nearly as bad as refined sugar. So it is essentially the less of two evils.

A natural, naturally zero calorie sweetener is Stevia. Not going to help you out much if you have a soda addiction, but is great for tea and coffee.

There is an interesting article in this month's Men's Journal about the negative aspects of them. I was going to shoot it over to Will Brink to get his views on it but maybe he can weigh in here.

I made the switch from anti perspirant to deoderant a few months back, my tinfoil is probably on to tight. I drink a lot of tap water. I have tried to avoid sucralose and the like as much as I can, it seems to be in everything from pre work out sups to gum. Thanks for the input.

I actually asked my doctor about this subject a few years ago... The wife was giving me grief about putting crystal light in my water...

Doctor basically aid that too much of ANYTHING will kill you. I wouldn't worry about it.

With that said, I flavor my water most of the time because I drink so much of it. I will NEVER pass a kidney stone.

I had a really bad flu last winter. Every time I started to get better I noticed a relapse every other day or so. After about a week of this rollercoaster ride I realized that every time I had consumed a soda pop with Aspartame in it I felt worse. I avoid Aspartame like the plague now.

Use Splenda. No aspartame. Better for you than sugar.

I try to avoid them all as much as possible, but I specifically avoid Splenda like the plague. Let's just say my gastrointestinal tract and Splenda do not get along well. I once made the mistake of consuming a "sugar free" (a.k.a. "Splenda-loaded") fruit smoothie at the Atlanta Airport just prior to an hours-long international flight. It was not a pleasant trip, to say the least.

My in-laws use Stevia. I tried it once in my coffee and dumped the mug down the sink. It must be an acquired taste.

I use Sugar in the Raw (otherwise known as turbinado sugar) in my coffee. I'm not sure if the turbinado is any better/worse for you than regular refined white sugar, but I much prefer the taste.
