Cool My three new WWII Milsurps

Here is my pawn shop find.... a Arisaka Type 38 Carbine. Need to do research but I believe it is a series 2. Bolt does not match the rifle per serial numbers. What is the indentation in the top handguad for? Never seen that before in pictures.

It's has an arsenal code of "ax" and is a '41 dated receiver. Has all of the kraut markings. The Soviets didn't peen them off. I replaced the cleaning rod, sight hood, and sling for it. I haven't had the chance to shoot it yet. It's in nice condition for a Soviet rework. Even the "X" marking is nice. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic.

Here is my new to me Soviet M38 Carbine. It's 1944 dated Izhevsk with a wartime M44 stock. Which for that period would be correct. All matching numbers. Possibly a forced match.

The type 38 still has the Mum! That is a rarity in of itself as most were ground away!

Awesome. My grandpa told me a funny story about a 6.5mm Arisaka. Apparently after the war, Field and Stream ran a story about how you could convert the 7.7mm Arisakas to .30-'06. A local guy had a 6.5mm and brought it to the local gun-plumber for conversion. The smith told him that it wouldn't hold the pressure if he bored it out for the '06, but the customer was insistent, so the smith obliged him. To test fire it, they took it out behind the shop, lashed it into a tree pointing into the ground, tied a piece of string to the trigger, and pulled the string from around the corner of the shop. Pap said that Arisaka bolt was the first satellite the US ever put into space, beating the Russkies by at least a few years.
Cyril: Oh now that's a breach of trust!

Lana: Do you really want to open this can of trust-breachy worms after I just found you and my ex-boyfriend with a dead hooker in the trunk?

    Cyril: ...I do not.

    Nice collection.

I'm a believer every gun guy should have at least one M-N. Cheap & reliable with reasonable ammo, that's about all you can ask of it.

I can't hardly believe the Jap rifle has the emperor's crest on the receiver. I believe this symbol identified the rifle as the property of the emperor and if it was ever foreseen that the rifle would fall into the hands of the enemy, it was hastily ground off. Very few were captured with the crest unmolested. It is a BEAUTIFUL piece!!!

    hahaha that is great.

Nice rifles, op. Just keep them original and don't do permanent mods. They're the AR-15s of their day.
