Then get some experience. Take a class or two.

If you want to rant or be a guidance counselor, there are other forums for that.

Actually, this isn't really the case. We pay fairly close attention to newer members' posts, and will delete (with prejudice) anything that goes down the path of post-whoring or "me too-ing." Try it often enough, and you'll end up with infractions that will make the journey even more difficult.

I can understand why it might smack of elitism when you're on the outside looking in, and that it is going to take a while to get your post count up when you're still relatively new to ARs. What you're not yet seeing is that we are deliberately putting you -- and every other newer member -- into this situation for the betterment of the forum at large. As JSantoro said, the objective is to give you plenty of time to assimilate the culture of the boards, and to gain a clear understanding of what we're trying to accomplish so when you do make your way into GD, you'll be part of the solution, rather than a part of the problem.

Our hope is that you will stick around and learn. We realize that your posting activity will be fairly limited at first, and again, this is more or less by design. Eventually, you'll hit your stride, ramp-up your knowledge base and gain full access, but it's a process that involves a bit of re-norming and an investment of time. Eventually, this will make perfect sense to you, but until then, please don't mistake the enforcement of a high quality standard for elitism or anything of the sort. In time, I suspect that you, like most, will acquire a new appreciation for our approach.

I think you can tie a lot of the attitude directly to the heat...it is certainly affecting my outlook. Battery in the Tahoe took a dump w/ no notice yesterday & was drenched with just a few minutes of work.

Belmont's area & other citties have set new records for 100+ days...it just sucks outside.

Some comic relief so my post doesn't sound like bitching:

    Dear Diary,

I just moved to Texas! Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not
a problem. Live in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car.
What a pleasure to see the sun every day like this. I'm turning into a sun
    worshipper.

    June 30th:
Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus and
rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing the lawn for me. Another
scorcher today, but I love it here.

    July 10th:
The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used to
this kind of heat? At least, it's kind of windy though. But getting used to
the heat is taking longer than I expected.

    July 15th:
Fell asleep by the community pool. Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my
body. Missed 3 days of work. What a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson
though. Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

    July 20th:
I missed Lomita (my cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning. By
the time I got to the hot car at noon, Lomita had died and swollen up to
the size of a shopping bag, then popped like a water balloon. The car now
smells like Kibbles and S*its. I learned my lesson though. No more pets in
this heat. Good ol' Mr. Sun strikes again.

    July 25th:
The wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's hot as
h**l. The home air-conditioner is on the fritz and the AC repairman charged
$200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts.

    July 30th:
Been sleeping outside on the patio for 3 nights now, $225,000 house and I
can't even go inside. Lomita is the lucky one. Why did I ever come here?

    Aug. 4th:
Its 115 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $500
and gets the temperature down to 85. I hate this stupid state.

    Aug. 8th:
If another wise a** cracks, 'Hot enough for you today?' I'm going to
strangle him. D*** heat. By the time I get to work, the radiator is boiling
over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!!

    Aug. 9th:
Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts, and when I sat on the
seats in the car, I thought my a** was on fire. My skin melted to the seat.
I lost 2 layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and
a** . . . Now my car smells like burnt hair, fried a**, and baked cat.

    Aug 10th:
The weather report might as well be a d*** recording. Hot and sunny. Hot
and sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do s*** for 2 d*** months and
the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever rain
in this d*** state? Water rationing will be next, so my $1700 worth of
cactus will just dry up and blow over. Even the cactus can't live in this
    d*** heat.

    Aug. 14th:
Welcome to H*LL! Temperature got to 115 today. Cactus' are dead. Forgot to
crack the window and blew the d*** windshield out of the car. The installer
came to fix it and guess what he asked me??? "Hot enough for you today?"
My sister had to spend $1,500 to bail me out of jail. Freaking Texas. What
kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live here?? Will write later to
let you know how the trial goes!

Is this site a general chit chat site, or is is specifically geared towards sharing of technical information regarding firearms, and more specifically, towards sharing information on the M-16/AR-15 family of weapons?

If the point is to come here to learn, who cares about being able to post in the GD section?

Granted, occasionally a topic comes up in the GD that I would post in if I could, but that is not why I am here...

Please refrain from making sense until after I've had a chance to recover from the use of ANY iteration of the word "elite" in reference to a freakin' internet subforum.

The sheer hipocracy of this post amazes me.

If you think it's directly about post-count, or about status, you're out of your damned mind.

If you have a problem with the policy...it's a big internet. Plenty of other sites where current events is the center of gravity and where you can jump right in, no waiting.

Go to one of those, or continue your membership here, bearing in mind what the Russians say about situations like yours:

    Toughski shitski.
Or as they say in the Mexican Marines, "El Tougho Shit-o."
