What I built around my KAC front sight/GB

Like the commercial where the couple goes to the architect, places the Kohler faucet on the table and says "build something around this", I've been looking for something to do with my KAC FS/GB that I've had for over a year. Of course, now it looks like these might not be unobtainium for much longer but that's a good thing because they just rock.

My gunsmith recently got two Noveske 10.6 CQB barrels in SS AND chrome lined. Very nice for automatic fire. I had a Vltor VIS lying around after scrounging its previous barrel. Add a KAC 300m BUIS, a PRI gasbuster and the awesome Ion Bond BCG from Dennys and ...voila, a very unique and very reliable shorty blaster.

As my usually iffy luck continued to hold out, my Gemtech can JUST clears the bayonet lug when attaching it. I mean it actually kisses it. Didn't plan for that but thankfully it worked fine.

This thing is so much fun it's ridiculous. Next up, I just have to have a 7.5" in 6.8 SPC. I'll start looking tomorrow.

    Nice.

Super nice rig you have. What Gem-Tech FH is that? For a VSBR 6.8mm I'd go with the "PSD" LWRC Short-Stroke upper. I have one in 556, and will probably be ordering one in 6.8mm also. SO Bad ass! Runs like a top and don't have to worry about gas problems. The whole package on a AR lower is shorter than a MP5 and would be lauching .270cal 110gr slugs! Just the trick for mounted work. Can't wait to see how it moves around in a HMMV.

Will you be getting the GB pinned?

I too would suggest pinning the FSB/gas block.

That was my first thought after seeing the close-ups, and I scroll down to see that two of you have beaten me to it.

Sorry, I knew I forgot a couple of pics.

You can see where the Noveske 17-4 GB was originally cross pinned. The KAC did not line up in the same spot so, using the set screw from the Noveske, the barrel was dimpled and the set screw inserted.

The GB was also VERY tight and would not go on without the insides being lapped a bit.

Ideally, you would like both the pins and the set screw but this isn't going anywhere.

For something this compact, I would hate to weigh it down with an big optic. I think this cries out for a LT Iron Dot or an Aimpoint micro.

That is the phantom type FH from Gemtech for their G5 suppressor. It also works with my older M4-96QD.

When did the Noveske release chrome lined SS barrels?

Nice build. 2 MOA Aimpoint COMP ML3 would by my optic of choice.
