Standard capacity mags as an investment?

The anti's are always coming up with ways to restrict gun rights as we all know. Since the AZ shooting earlier this year, it seems to me that full capacity magazines are the hot topic to the MSM & the anti gun lib's.

I ran across this article about a potential mag ban:http://www.survivalblog.com/2011/01/...legislati.html

I remember when Glock mags were going for $75 after the last ban. Is this something that we should be stocking up on just in case?

I always stock up on them just because it is good to have spares. I like to keep at least 200 M4 mags (half USGI and half PMags) as extra and at least 20 Glock mags. These are new in the wrapper mags not in the training rotation for my guns.
In no way do I make any money from anyone related to the firearms industry.

They'll be worth MUCH more than the dollars you gave for them in short order, it appears...

Buying for a possible mag an is speculation not investment. But I think they would make a decent inflation hedge. They are not likely to get any cheaper, unless with a draw down in military we get flooded with surplus on the consumer market. But quality mags are pretty low priced now, not sure they could be made and distributed any cheaper.

I bought lots of AK and AR mags over the last several years, starting when AK mags were selling for $15 for four in a pouch, and AR mags were $5. Haven't regretted a single purchase. No plans to sell any but no plans to need to buy any for a generation or so.

Back in '04 when Slick Willy's ""Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act" sunsetted I dropped $1K on GLOCK, AR, and 10/22 hi-caps.

As it is with ammo, there is NO such thing as too many mags. Majority of our modern firearms are detachable box magazine fed so they would be reduced to expensive clubs if we didn't have mags for them. You can bet your ass that there WILL be fourth coming anti 2nd legislation. It's already been put to paper.

So YES stock up on high capacity box fed magazines for your particular rifles. One day, what you don't use you can trade/barter or sell.

I'm planning on buying a quantity of USGI 30 rounders and keeping them in wrapping for a rainy day. Maybe buying a few Beta C-Mags too? Could really cash in on them during a ban.

Lots of people report good results with the Korean made Glock magazines and I have used a few hard over the past year with zero malfunctions. The good thing is these magazine sell under $10.00 most places and can be had for the Model-17, 19 and 22 as well as the 33rd sticks.

Beta Cs are a no go. Check out the SureFire high capacity offerings.
