Seems that the K would be the way to go, especially if MKE guns are going to be cut off from import. There arent as many options available for (affordable) reliable K guns.

Maybe its just hearsay, but the sources are certainly credible.
Was it the price hike that did it? Or some type of import regulation?

I would have eventually tried one out for $1150, but then prices went up and I said, "Nahhh"

Now I feel like I should have done it...

You should have done it. $1150 was nothing, slightly more than dealer. Retail was about $1495 and was a good deal at that price. If this is truly the end of the party these will climb to about $2000 with no trouble.

I went the German Parts kit from hkparts.net route. Had ChopstixKid from hkforum build it for me. Now, I've got the expensive 922r stuff to get while the paperwork is pending. All in, it'll end up around $2800 with the 922r parts.

BTW, as an aside, ChopstixKid's welds are friggin' beautiful! Also, I've put about 400-500 rounds thru it just goofing off with a sling attached and haven't had any stoppages.

Adam at HKParts has both models in stock for $1349 - not as cheap as they used to be, but its still not bad.

If you want a beautiful example, sure drop 2800 bucks on a custom build. If you want a functional shooter (that still looks just fine) get the MKE.

No disrespect to chopstixkid intended, but I'd rather have a HK contract firearm than a gunsmith build using a US receiver, even if the cost was the same let alone at half the price.

    Alright guys. Got a question.

What is the status of the American HK MP5 clone market?

I'm taking about PTRs, Vectors, Coharie Arms (I'd prefer not to get one.), Dakota Tactical, and others.

    Any of them good?

I've read on HKPro that this is the ''golden age'' of HK cloning. I'm trying to find out why.

Because before there were reasonable clones there were $2,000-4,000 HK's and bad clones.

I don't know if I would call it a golden age, but bringing a few thousand MKEs into the country didn't hurt anything. Especially since I'm convinced a cottage industry will come around to convert them to "US spec" MP5s at some point so they can be used with auto trigger packs.

If they truly are done bringing in MKEs, I can see them hitting ~$2k or so on the used market in a short time as people realize the value of a real HK contract gun. Once people figure out how to make them sear ready, I think they'll double.
    Principles matter.

I've always wanted a true semi H&K MP5. Any more out there?
