    Walther PPQ 9mm Review

I recently picked up a Walther PPQ to try out. I'm tempted by new products and can be somewhat impulsive when I buy things like handguns. I rarely change my carry gun mind you, I just like to play with the latest and greatest.

I picked up a Walther PPQ as I felt it was an interesting pistol. I liked the feel of the pistol and I thought it was a handsome firearm.

Few questions and I'll start by saying if I missed it in the review I'm sorry(I was watching it while trying to do something else).

Does it use the same mags as the p99 or different ones?

Is the back strap a quick remove one or is it like the p99 where you need to use a punch and remove the pin holding it in?

On the p99 it has the bump on the inside of the trigger guard that I seem to always hit and it makes my trigger finger a little sore after a bunch of shooting due to how I hold it. If you know what I'm talking about does this have the same problem?

Overall seemed like a nice review and a good grouping. I like my p99as so this interests me.

Well, I own a PPQ, so maybe I can help..

Mags..From what I've read, the newer P99 mags will work, older ones will hit the feed ramp. Magnum Research Baby Eagle mags are identical except different color follower, different finish on mag body(shiny, dark blue) name on floor plate. These are made in Italy by Meg-gar, as are the Walther marked mags. They're also much cheaper, and usually available. So far, the two I have have worked perfectly.

Backstraps come off with a punch and pin.

    No bump in the triggerguard.

So far, GREAT! I just love the trigger.Ergos, and the mag release,(I also have a HK P-2000, so the mag release is simular)work very well for me. I've got about 800rnds on mine..No failures..The MR mags work fine, I also bought a set of trijicon P-99 NS and they fit on the PPQ with no problems. So far as I can tell, 125gr bullets hit to point of aim, 147gr seem to hit a little high. I reload so, it could have been the load..I'll have to check that out again..I'm going to one of Grant's defensive pistol and defensive carbine classes tommorrow,(Sat.) and will take the Walther for use in the pistol class, this should be a hoot!

ETA: Well, I used it in the class, and we were doing moving/shooting drills, I did OK, (need more practice) However, the Walther performed flawlessly. After class, I let a couple other guys who were interested in it, try it and the look on their faces when they found the reset was priceless! neither could believe how short the reset was..and both of these guys shoot Glocks, One of them told me he's seriously considering buying one, after shooting mine..Both loved the trigger, and the ergos..

Thats Ralph for the answers. The mags were one of the more important ones. My p99 isn't that old and I have a bunch of mags for it. The ability to use the same mags in both helps offset the price some. Might have to look at getting one of these.

Thanks for the video review. You should get a kickback from Walther. LOL I have a 99AS that I like enough to think about using it for conceal carry and being one of the newer ones it's nice to know the magazines will work in both. Like you I find the magazine release to be different enough it would take some getting use to.

If you know anyone at Walther that has a company checkbook, let me know.

I think the magazine issue might be a bigger problem for me with my large hands and long fingers than it might be for someone with a more modestly sized hand.
