Thoughts on using a home built lower with a lower quality LPK in a HD rifle.

Right now I am debating on replacing my lower. I built my lower in the middle of the 2009 post election panic. At the time the only LPK that I could find was DPMS. At first the gun was just meant as a fun gun and not for home defense / hard use gun. However, over the years my i have been setting up my AR for home defense by getting a Bravo upper, aimpoint, decent BCG, etc.... Right now the rifle functions as it should however, knowing the lack of quality that DPMS puts into their products I wonder if I can really trust the LPK. With the price of the cosmetic blem BCM lowers I wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade to a lower with a better part kit?

Why not just upgrade the LPK with something new/better?

I wouldn't bother - unlike some parts its not as though the lower part components are high stress - if its working, its working. The only part even worth consideration to change would be the trigger components, but even then I'd personally only do that if the trigger you have feels exceptionally bad, or if I was wanting to upgrade to an aftermarket trigger.

I wouldn't recommend buying a DPMS LPK for a new build because of the increased chance of getting some out of spec /badly machined components....but as you've already got one and its working fine, its a different case.

where are you getting a G&R lpk for $50? last I saw it was $51 for basic lpk with no FCG and as much as $93 for an lpk with moe trigger guard, I just got a DD lpk for $73

are you looking to replace your whole lower because its dpms or just the parts? keep the rifle you have or make some upgrades and if you want a bcm lower, turn it into a a new rifle! I have a dpms lower that I used in a "budget build" and the receiver itself seems as good as any, I also used a dpms lpk that eventually I swapped out the fcg with a spikes battle trigger not that I had problems with the dpms fcg, it actually wasnt that bad but I had a matching NiB bolt in the upper to go with it, eventually the "budget build" got upgraded if only in price and unnecessary things haha no it is functional. 3200 rounds later the dpms receiver and lower parts minus swapped out fcg are functioning as well as the other lpk's but that still doesnt mean dpms is overall of the same quality and certainly not the same QC standards of other reputable manf.

Buy yourself a quality FCG as a back up and then replace the current when it fails.
