    Question Laser lipo removal?

I saw an ad recently for laser fat removal, essentially like liposuction (which seems to have fallen out of favor) but without the surgery. Is this real? Someone I know is doing all of the right things for weight loss but it's very, very slow and they have a LONG way to go, so I was wondering if this is a viable thing to try in order to further the effort. Does anyone here know much about it or have experience with it?

A lot of stuff like this and the spa wraps for weight loss are more about dehydration of the body/body area than removal of fat.

There are very few things that actually remove or kill fat cells.

Surgical removal is the only way to get rid of fat cells.

Liposuction isn't a viable method of weight loss, it's a cosmetic procedure for body contouring to counteract an unfortunate distribution of fat cells.

As mentioned, you can't get rid of fat cells, but you can get rid of the fat that they contain. That's the concept behind weight loss...burn the fat that they contain. You can't remove enough of them surgically to change the underlying problem of excess weight.

Let's just say there are some body contouring issues as well, and removing the unfortunate distribution of fat cells in unfortunate places for them to be would be entirely helpful.

Was this person obese as a kid or later in life? I'm thinking your body is done removing/adding fat cells before puberty. So unless they were chunky from early on simply loosing weight may help with the body contouring.

Skinny kids that get fat later in life (college pizza+beer) can usually lean down pretty good if they work at it.

I was pretty fat as a kid/teen and as a result even when I'm pretty lean the ole belly and love handles will never get super tiny. To the point I can have my top to abs showing and still get a muffin top with tight pants. It is super awesome. But until they get to a decent body fat percentage it will be hard to tell how the fat will distribute itself.

That and the pride you get from working the weight off is hard to beat. I went from 325lbs, 43" belt, unable to run a mile in under 20 min and benchpressing 110lb in high school to 180lb 36" belt, an 6-7 minute mile and still having a sucktastic 280lb bench by mid college. Now I can feel proud even with love handles and when I'm at a buffet that extra pudding just reminds me of the hours it costs on a treadmill. Not sure I'd have the same will power and pride if a surgeon had done most of the work for me.

Misconception about weight-loss surgery (liposuction isn't weight-loss surgery, btw). That's the HARD way to effect lifestyle change. It doesn't make it easy to get to a healthy weight range, it makes it possible.

No real secrets I can pass on.
#1 thing, know your self and what motivates you. Weight loss is nothing but making sure your calories in < calories out. Period.

Find out what keeps you motivated to make sure you are eating less than you are burning off and the fat goes away.

Find a workout that is fun. For me it was raquettball, a little boxing, mma style training and basketball + weight lifting.
Finally a training partner to keep you motivated and yell "HEY FATTTTYYY QUIT BEING LAZY" helps.

If following the latest fad diet or work out dvd makes you happy go do it.

Losing weight sucks balls. Make it as tailored to you as you can and it gets easier.
