Canned Cokes are still 65 cents in my local gubmint vending machines.*
They're closing the NASA post office and keeping the one on the Army side.

Actually they're run by a local beverage distributor (who probably has some minority/female/veteran/native American sole-source contract).

If you are refering to Marie Anoinette then yes, she never said that. However there is a historical record of an unknown European elitist saying something to that effect.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau mentions a variation in his autobiographical 'Confessions', where he relates the story of how he, on trying to find food, remembered the words of a great princess who, upon hearing that the country peasants had no bread, coldly said "let them eat cake/pastry". He was writing in 1766-7, before Marie came to France. Furthermore, in a 1791 memoir Louis XVIII claims that Marie-Thérèse of Austria, wife of Louis XIV, used a variation of the phrase ("let them eat pastry") a hundred years before.

Didn't "cake" also mean the scraps left over after bakers finished all their other baking?

They probably have to keep separate paperwork on each muffin and cookie and be able to trace its history from conception to final disposition. In triplicate. That is one reason the gov overspends on everything.

That, and some asshole Congresscritter probably sponsored a pork-barrel appropriations bill that mandated the agency by muffins from a preferred vendor who happens to be a big campaign contributor.

Remember, EVERY government agency was created by Congress. Any over-reaching regulation is the result of Congress abdicating its responsibilities to govern.
Cyril: Oh now that's a breach of trust!

Lana: Do you really want to open this can of trust-breachy worms after I just found you and my ex-boyfriend with a dead hooker in the trunk?

    Cyril: ...I do not.
