Nice. I can see Bogey pulling one of those out of his trench coat pocket.

    Very nice “four screw”.

That pic, even with stocks ON, is obviously a 5 screw.
Your original photo doesn’t show the screw at top of plate/near hammer, thats what threw me.
    I have both 4 and 5 screw 2” M&Ps/mod 10s.
The “missing” top/5th screw was my mistake.
Still a very nice old K frame.

I've got one of those. Shame I didn't jump on a few more when a whole bunch got dumped on the surplus market about 7 years ago

Ok, the Ruger Speed Six has an almost mythical reputation, but I’ve never shot one. Never even seen one in the wild.

Honest question - what makes them so awesome? With more info, I can delude myself into buying one!

I have three of them. An early production "low back" 4" Security Six. A 3" Speed Six "GS33-PS" that was a contract made gun for the US Postal Inspectors. Also have a bog standard 6" Security Six.

They're fantastic shooters, dead nuts reliable, tough, and much easier to carry than the GP100.

Accuracy is good too with them.

Lol. To be honest I have no idea. I think all guns get that after they've been discontinued.
They're not rated for steady diet of 357. About as well as a K frame SW, maybe a little better but not what a new SP101 would be.

I think what they do have is overall quality and usefulness at a reasonable price (before prices went to the moon). You got a well built gun with 3 inch barrel (or just under. I can't remember if it's 3 or 2.75) that held 6 38/357 in a relatively small concealable package. I would say it's target audience is the same people who would buy a SW J frame 640 only at a lower price and 1 extra round. At the same time it's cheaper than a K frame and with the sweet spot concealable 2.75 - 3 inch barrel

I would say it's aimed at right in between the 640 and the 66 2.5in barrel.
