Separately and hopefully not dumb, I've read that the 6940 uses a proprietary barrel extension that limits your ability to replace the barrel with non-Colt barrels. Any idea if the SP901 does the same?

Yes they will. At this point in time, Colt only knows how to make fighting guns one way.

No idea on the barrel configuration for the SP901.

Are there really that many monolithic 308 caliber guns? I can only think of this and the MWS if you're talking about ARs. Maybe I'm just not thinking, but for the monolithic 5.56s I can't think of any that are that heavy. Colt's monolithic 5.56, the 6940, is 6.6 lbs or so for comparison's sake.

The SCAR 17S is monolithic and only weighs around 7.7 lbs. Admittedly, the rail is a bit short on the SCAR. That looks to be the one thing on the Colt I'd prefer, but having toyed around with the MWS with a decent optic I knew within seconds that it wasn't something I wanted to be lugging around. They're have been quite a few complaints in that regard as a quick search here will attest. I was initially excited by this rifle before I went the SCAR route when it was being said to weigh around 8lbs and the only other 308 AR that could claim that was the SR25 EMC at 4-5k. It seems the PredatAR has filled that void.

Being able to swap uppers isn't really that compelling of a feature for my needs. I'm sure it's still a damn fine rifle, just not anything I feel a burning need for.

Rail is shorter, is PLASTIC and from my experience and many others, not all that accurate (compared to other semi-auto .308's). So think of the exta 2lbs as accuracy insurance.

We will start to take pre-orders next month (once we get some formal time frame from Colt).

Colt is about to allow commercial dealers (which is what we are) to order SBR's! So soon, we will have 6933's, 6945's and 6943's. I am also trying to get a MK18 out of them.
