    demigod,

Not bold at all; simply look at the data for gas port erosion, bolt failures, and functional barrel life.

    ----------------------------------

A good quality Mk18 or SAW Colt with 10.5" runs well, but in general the 11.5" uppers are a bit more trouble free.

Using those 3 criteria, does the 14.5 do significantly worse than 11.5 and 16" all things equal?

I had heard that the 14.5" was very hard on the system before; more so than the other lenghts. Who know's?

I suppose it's possible, but I can't really see how it could be any worse than a 16" weapon. And I always thought the shorter uppers were more violent operators... having to beef up the extraction, etc.

In all fairness, the gunsmith that told me that taked about 16" guns that ran a middy gas system. I imagine that a 16" carbine would have the same problems as a 14.5". I don't know personally, just passing on that I had heard the same type thing as Doc said about the 14.5"er's.
