As someone who isn't too versed with these kinds of things---is the SOPMOD design superior simply because of the cheek-weld surface area it provides?
Does this make the style for a better all around design than an MOE/CTR or OEM stock?

"If force can take away liberty, force is necessary to preserve it. It is the hatred of violence alongside the willingness to use violence that preserves liberty. In order for us to live as free men, we have to hate the violence that takes away liberty, yet at the same time, we must embrace the violence that preserves it. That is the paradox our founders appreciated and made work for over 200 years."

Winning may not be everything, but the endorsements are better.
Will I still be able to buy a butt pad separately once the changes are made? Also are there any other changes other than the limited QD?
I run a CQD rear mount so the QD doesn't get used anyways so not planning on buying a new stock... yet.![]()

Truth is, while I've been reading and learning about stuff here for more than a year now, I don't actually own any self loading rifles. I was set on an Arsenal AK for a while, but the more I learned about practical shooting, I saw the obvious advantages an AR-15 would offer.
If all goes well, I should have enough $$$ by mid to late summer to purchase a decent fighting rifle, and I will be taking the buy once cry once thing to heart.
My plan is to get a 16" BCM middy BFH with MOE handguards and an iron sight (for now) (and also the BCM charging handle).
The final major factor for now is deciding which stock is the best. Since I don't have regular exposure to ARs, (honestly this forum is my best and most reliable source), I haven't got a clue to which stock is best for me.
Cheek weld is always a good thing, right?
Yes, moving forward with everything. Sorry for delay was slammed before headed to Colorado for an industry event. I just posted a pic of a gray Enhanced Sopmod stock on our Fb page, featuring antirotational QD and new buttpad.

I've tried many of the current options and keep going back to SOPMOD - mine are LMT (ordered them as an option on complete LMT lowers/weapons). I also like Magpul's ACS for the same reasons - large sloped surface for comfortable cheek weld, storage for batts, rubber butt pad that tends to stay put when wearing armor or shooting from unconventional positions. I look forward to acquiring one of the B5 units in OD or CB.
BTW a consistent cheek weld (stock weld) is a key component of good rifle marksmanship. Consistent stock weld relates to correct and consistent eye relief - enabling the aiming eye to be consistently placed (orientation and distance) behind the rear sight.
