    Alternative Means of Protection

In a few threads some suggest that there maybe an attempt by the current administration to use the National Guard or the U.S. Military to disarm the populace during a SHTF event under the enactment of Marshal Law.

So say that this occurs and your now without any firearms how would you defend your family? What under the radar "LEGAL" items would you resort to and how would you plan to deploy same.

Have you already considered this scenario and how did you work it into your prep's?
We are all inclined to judge ourselves by our ideals; others, by their acts.

    Martial law.

As far as weapons, they're everywhere. The stuff many people have in their garden sheds could readily be pressed into service as weapons. A machete and garbage can lid would make a OK buckler and "sword" or you could use a table leg or sawed-off base ball bat as a club with some sort of shield.

My favorite funny from years ago:

Better have lots of friends. The "its me and my family against the world" attitude won't fly if you are limited to melee-type weapons against even fairly small groups of looters.

I've "considered it." It's not a "consideration" in my preps though.

Clubs and garden tools are great, but I think I would still need a projectile weapon... I'd make a bow.

I don't think my plastic lids are going to do the trick.

Maybe Magpul could start making Tactical Polymer Trash Cans.

Slingshot with black bands, a lead-casting setup for .44" lead balls, and as much lead as you can stack up, melt down and store in coffee cans. Keep a $6.50 slingshot and a coffee can's worth of ammo at each window to the house. A car leaf spring can make an incredible overpowered crossbow capable of launching rebar through a few inches of concrete, if you have the time you could build one and amass enough lengths of rebar you could have a car-killing device on hand, that'd probably defeat body armor too. An old motor turned on its side with a chain welded to the crankshaft could spin the chain around a few feet off the ground and make a road impassable (would wreck cars, people, etc.). Explosives and fire are the most efficient way to kill a lot of people quickly...use your imagination.
You could build a trebuchet with modern materials and tools, make it far more efficient.
A sword would work quite well, train with it first.
It's not too late to bury a few SKS's, Mosin Nagants, etc. with 500 rounds of ammo per rifle for post-confiscation use, scatter them around your AO.
Compressed air could be used to launch something at an incredible velocity (marbles, cast lead balls?), and with an adequate compressor could fire very rapidly.

    Wasp spray.

A flame thrower would be easy to build out of garage and garden equipment.

I have a crossbow that is very nice. It is also great for hunting.

    One word....CACHE.
In no way do I make any money from anyone related to the firearms industry.

A nice bow is a great idea really.

You can buy one at any sporting goods store, in cash, and just keep it somewhere out of sight. Even if "they" came to take everyones weapons "they" wouldnt even know you owned it (even if they were taking bows from people).

Hmm maybe Ill scour craigslist for a bow now

Keeping distance is paramount if at all possible.

    #1- Crossbows are awesome.
    #2 - Bow
#3 - Spear gun. You can find use ones on craigslist (Florida) for $100 and accurate in water 10-15 feet. CON: Single shot. not enough time to reload at this close distance.
#4 - Pole Spear used for underwater fishing (under $100)

The above backed up with far reaching pepper spray/bear spray then use
    #5- Machete/sword
    #6 - Fighting knife

ETA: I don't think a slingshot is deadly enough unless a headshot which understress would probably be next to impossible except for the most practiced & skilled.

ETA: And don't turn in all your weapons. Bury a sniper rifle to wreak havoc and make their life difficult and unpleasant & pistol for the resistance. At the very least bury a pistol. This will enable the gain of more weaponry as they're distracted by your sexy wife or sister offering their company.
