    Question DSA SA58 Tacital Carbine

I have been running around trying to do a little research on the DSA SA58s and I would appreciate any feedback from the forum members.

I will be heading to the gun shop on Saturday with a wad of hundreds... so I would appreciate any info regards these rifles.

DSA Arms SA 58 Tactical Series

    Thanks,

I have had several of the StG-58A's and can't say enough good things about them.

I think there has been some negative commentary on the shortened gas system that the "Tactical" models are using, but I haven't had any first hand negative experiences with them. A buddy who had a one of the Tactical Carbines was very happy with it and it ran fine.

DSA makes an outstanding FAL.......I would probably go with a traditional gas system though, after 50 years it works fine.

I owned a regular SA58 carbine instead of the Tactical, but only because at the time I bought mine they didn't make the Tactical.

I loved mine. It ran like a top, I shot it extremely well with iron sights, and used to even use it in carbine matches. The only reason I got rid of it was because I standardized on the AR platform. The different manual of arms made it tough for me to switch back and forth.

Templar,I have some resevations about the short gas system too. I have a lot of good experiences with the standard FALs so I may stay with the standard version .

Rob, I am buying the SA58 for the same reason you went back to the AR, I have a lot of experience with the L1A1 FALs and I also want to shoot the same caliber as my bolt action.

    Thanks for the replies.

The STG58 is not the same as the SA58. The STG is essentially a parts gun (which I would actually prefer over the domestic DSA gun).

As far as the tactical model goes, it seems silly to me that anyone would opt for the shortened gas system when they are not running a 10" barrel. Not only are the parts not interchangeable with the millions of spares out there but there is increased wear from the added port pressure. However, I have fired several short FALs and they ran fine but they were just not my cup of tea.
The standard SA58 can be bought with with a standard gas system as a 16" barrel. If you're still feeling froggy and need to go shorter the barrel can be shortened further to 14.5" and still use the standard gas system.

    16"

    18"

I know the difference between the StG-58A's and the SA-58's, just wanted to say that my experiences with them have been extremely favorable.

When I sold them, the repair rate on the DSA's was one of the lowest of any line.

    *edit*

If I were buying a DSA carbine.....it would be the Para.....

    Thumbs up

Needless to say, I like my DSA SA-58 Carbine, but I do not the lack of cheap surplus ammo... I reload for the FAL, but the FAL extractor is tough on some SOFT .308 brass...

    Awesome looking FAL!

Since you are a reloader you might know what the difference I can expect in velocity from a 16.25" bbl on the carbine vs. the standard 21"?

    Thanks,

You're looking at about a 150 fps. (or so) difference.

DSA StG-58A (new receiver, as new Steyr kit) with the standard 21" barrel.
