    223 Pistol ar

I have a few of them. 2 built from scratch. cant get a full mag to go through it. mostly loads new round and extracts old, but hammer isnt cocked sometimes too.

    using m193 ammo 55 g
    7 inch barrels.
I keep hearing about ammo choice for the short barrel.

one is the short buffer COMPLETE Young Mfg. 7.5" 5.56 Pistol Kit.
one is standard with buffer tube and standard wt buffer.

any idea what ammo would be best?

So are you saying that it's failing to cock the hammer and reset the sear, or is it just not chambering a round, or what?

    yes

seems like all of the above. but, failing to reset the sear is mostly what is happening. I tried it on a couple of different lowers and still had problems.

I will try again next week and do a real strategic assessment of the ammo and failures that occur.
    thanks

Why don't you start by posting some coherent sentences. Explain something about the builds such as the buffer weights, bolt carrier groups, etc...

This would go a long way in helping us to help you.

well one bad one, like i said, is the Young Mfg. 7.5" 5.56 Pistol Kit. It is a complete kit sold by marks armory with a short buffer tube and proprietary bolt shortened for the pistol application.

lowers arent relevant as I have tried 5 different lowers with these two upper setups.

the second one is using a full size pistol buffer tube with car spring and standard wt buffer. rra chrome full bcg, with their lpk 7" 1:9 twist barrel with ffs and a2 flashhider.
but i have tried it on other lowers COLT with colt full bcg and it does the same.

I have heard it is an ammo issue, but my rocky mountain arms patriot will shoot any weight 556 or 332 ammo.
I dont know what else I can say, but thanks and I will shoot the bad ones agian and see if different bullet wts or buffer wt will change the resucts on the standard one. the Young Mfg. 7.5" 5.56 Pistol Kit I cant really change much except the flashhider/muzzle break that I can think of.

Part of the issue is to be blunt- you are shooting butchered up pieces of shit that weren't meant to function the way you have them.

Most people recognize that 7.5" is below the threshold of a reliable build. Start adding weird cut up BCG's, tubes, etc.. to the picture and you have an ARbortion of epic proportions.

For the one that isn't butchered I would try a spring of correct length, with a heavy buffer (H2 or H3) along with some quality known ammo like M855 or some IMI M193.

I would also contact Young Mfg and ask them what they recommend since they apparently make them. Find out what configuration, ammo and other details they will give you and explain that yours is an unreliable piece of shit and you want to make it right.

    thanks,

I will try the heavier buffers and I have a full length spring in there now. I was using the 193 ammo, but will try 855 and some heavy stuff too this coming week. emailed youngs lst week. would be great if it worked.

I am also gonna try a tight muzzle break to try to get some pressure to cycle it better. thanks

Something that may help you would be the Noveske KX3. But, again I would want to rule out any issues with the build itself and the parts.
