Think life is not as good as it used to be, at least in terms of your wallet? You'd be right about that. The standard of living for Americans has fallen longer and more steeply over the past three years than at any time since the US government began recording it five decades ago.

The "Great Recession" began in late 2007 and the economy fell off a cliff in September of 2008, but the decline in living standards for most middle-income Americans had been baked in long before that.

Check out Figure 2 on page 12: Income, Poverty, and Health Coverage in the United States:2010. U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Census Bureau. (http://www.census.gov/prod/2011pubs/p60-239.pdf)

Real wages and income essentially flat for over thirty years with deficit spending financed by one bubble after another providing an illusion of relative prosperity to placate the masses.

And now the day of reckoning has arrived. Cheers!

I'll repost this from one of my posts in the Prepper sub-forum.

our purchasing power used to be huge in the 1950s-60s. The mother of a family didnt even need to work because one income was more than enough to cover a family with multiple kids. Try that today.

Quit importing a third world country every decade and maybe the lower-middle class could get a head. This isn't difficult.

    Well no shit.

We've given the nation back to the old euro style oligarchs and robber barons. You think these people give a damn about you or me, or the country.

Correct, but we gave it back to them in 1913 when the US was sold to the private corporation known as The Federal Reserve.
