I had the forth BCG down and I noticed the firing pin would get hung up on the stupid stepped hammer in a bushmaster I had.

It beats the shit out of the FP retaining pin, and will eventually break one leg off of it if you let it go long enough. Get rid of unshrouded carriers.

It has a smaller head, and is known as the semi auto FP. The smaller head doesn't engage as much of the FP retaining pin so it puts more stress on half of it.

Specialized Armament will cut it off. They just performed the service for a close acquaintence's preban (MA resident). Their turn-around time was excellent.

OK.. OK.... I sold the 6520. I was fortunate enough to find a local guy that could appreciate the Colt for what it is and he wanted it for his collection. It really was a nice carbine and he was a nice guy, so it all worked out.

    Now, here's my plan....

    • BCM lightweight barrel 14.5" carbine upper
    • MOE Handguard
    • BCM BCG
    • BCM Blem lower
    • DD1.5 Rear Sight

This should end up being even lighter than the 6520.

Thanks for everyone's help and advice.

Doesn't help that the least bit of a timing issue causes the notched hammer to catch the lip of the FP and then it bangs into the retaining pin. If you can't change it (agency gun maybe) you can always radius the hammer notch and the leading edge of the FP.

We have pool guns from that era that get treated like rented mules at our PD. No problems yet 10 years later.
