Iran isnt stupid enough to attack Israel. Israel has 300 nuclear weapons. Iran doesnt even have one. Israel alone can turn that entire country into glass.
A massive response from Israel is not likely given that the origin of the attack is likely to be disguised. Iran does not have the missle or airforce capability for airborn delivery which could be easily tracked. This means that that a smaller device smuggled into Israel is the main threat. It could be weeks before Israel confirms the source of such an attack which lessens the likelihood of a massive response due to international pressure trying to prevent a ME holocost.
Others have also noted that the theory of mutually assured destruction may not apply to the ME. This is due to the tenents of radical Islam calling for a Jewish holocost as a means to fulfill interpretations of prophecy. Such cataclysmic thinking was not a factor for either side of the Cold War.
Israel doesn't have the balls to handle their business so they'll wait on us...sadly.

They're probably worried we'd stab them in the back like the Belgians and French after they had to take care of business in the Six Day War.

If that's a factor, they don't feel threatened enough, which means we shouldn't worry about it either.
Once Israel starts launching rockets, and commits to their own survival rather than waiting for American welfare checks, then we should consider helping an "ally".
For now, we need to stay out of it.

Interesting perspective. I've never considered Israel to be lacking in the balls department - especially when it comes to hitting Muslims who like to play with nuclear materials. Operation Bablyon is a good example of some hairy ones.
I agree that we should not be involved in any direct action. However, I have no problem with Israel "borrowing" a couple GBU-57's.
