"Whatever it's for; it wasn't possible until now!!!" - KrampusArms
I agree. The point of my post was why put up with a gun that has a problem is at least annoying. And at worse could potentially further degrade your performance in an already bad situation. Right now if I wanted another G19 I would get an older one. Or wait until APEX or someone else solves the problem. It doesn't appear Glock is going to. Either they can't resolve it for whatever reason or won't.
G19
SGZxxx 20 Dec 2011
Gen 3 Black
Approx 1000 rounds total
Stock, 1st owner
Approx 10 - 12 stovepipes, one double feed
most malfunctions occurred with Remington UMC 115 gr mc L9MM3
Ejector: 336
Extractor: Concave top, marked 1
RSA: 5593L
5 - 6" groups at 25 (best I could do but I'm not a good shot). Owned three 9mm Glocks with 500-1K rnds thru each don't recall ever having a malfunction. Something changed - must be the new wife.
Don't get a Glock..."You'll poke your eye out".
I do agree, the random brass ejection is annoying. A universally-acclaimed extractor would be great, but it sounds to me like somebody will have to take a mill to the ejection port to fix the problem for good.
For those who seem to be a little flustered over this issue, maybe you missed the very first thing that I said, which was that this is MY opinion, and you can either take it or leave it.
My point was that in MY experiece through training, my Glock has never given me concern over "poking my eye out". It has not affected my training and fundamentals either. Mindset plays a big role here as well. But this is MY G19. If yours really does spit brass out hard enough to make you worry about your safety, then that may be a little different story. Although, I still think that its an extremely slim chance that anything detrimental would happen if you did have to draw down in a defensive scenario. If you are carrying something that is sub-optimal for ccw (and I'm not saying that anyone here actually is) due to the fear that your Glock MAY spit a piece of brass to your face, then I disagree with that stance.
As I said, its MY opinion, take it or leave it.
In the meantime, I will carry my eratic ejecting Glock, and we can all save our pennies for an Apex extractor.
I completely agree. I have two or three Gen3 Glocks that will occasionally send brass to my my forehead (depending on the type of ammo). Despite this issue, I trust my Glocks 100% for carry and home defense.
Only one of them, after installing the WSD HRED, ever ejected brass hard enough to elicit a reaction, such as causing me to flinch or leaving red marks on my forehead. But, as you said, mindset is huge here. When I shoot, I'm usually so focused on watching the front sight that minor impacts to my forehead are not a big deal. Besides, with the weird combination of things I did to that gun, it is now one of the most consistently ejecting Glocks I have.
My post on clarification of the blink reflex was that, IF, the brass came back fast enough, and if the shooter was particularly unlucky to get hit in the eye, it would be possible to cause corneal damage.
I have no idea why some are drilling 'mindset' when nobody here complaining about the problem has said anything in regards to the subject. This is M4C which the average member is a little more trained, shoots more, trains more and most have the mindset to overcome obstacles to get the job done or die trying to save themselves or their loved ones.
So can we stay on topic about the hardware in question and move the software jabs elsewhere?
Well, It would appear that I was wrong about the new, non-dip Glock extractor I had installed..First time out with it, it spit brass everywhere..I took it out today, fired a total of 267 rnds..250rnds of my loads, 11Blazer (aluminium case) and 6 assorted including a couple Wolf, a WCC nato rnd, the rest, Win. Out of all that ammo, I had 1 left extraction, and 1, 6 0'clock extraction..The rest all flew out to the right like they were supposed to... At one point I was doing a Pistol Training drill, 2rnds into a 3"x5" rectangle, and 4rnds into a 8" cricle, from 5, and 7yds. As I was firing the rounds into the circle rapidly, I noticed a stream of brass going out to the right. They ended up about 2' or so from my right foot, I had also shot it at Grant's defensive pistol class last Sat (7/21) and noticed it seemed like the ejection pattern was changing..Shooting today, confirmed that..So, maybe these do need broken in..I don't know, But I'm no longer taking brass to the face.. I have a gen4 ejector coming, so, I'll install that and try it next, Hopefully it'll kick'em out a little farther. I'm also hoping this holds up at least until Randy gets his extractor out.. It certainly changes the whole shooting experience when you're not getting pelted with brass..

There's a race of men who don't fit in, A race that can't stay still, So, they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will..
I'm not giving up on these Glocks. I've had zero luck tracking down a new non dipped extractor but I just picked up a gen 4 17 in FDE. It only threw one piece if brass in my face when I took it out and put 200 rounds through it. It shot flat as hell but was hitting pretty high.
