I'll be adding to this discussion shortly as I just ordered a Dissipator upper from PSA on Sunday and it should be here by Friday. This is more or less the beginning of my wife's rifle, although I might end up confiscating it for my personal use. Reviews to come.

I am happy with my PSA dissapator upper. It works well with my LMT lower and the feedramps looked pretty good to me.

If this is your first AR I'd advise against a monolithic upper like the 6940 where you're stuck with a fixed length handguard/rail. Should you decide down the road that a longer handguard would work better for you you're looking at having to swap out the upper receiver, barrel nut, and gas block / front sight to get there (or replacing the entire upper receiver group). What looks appealing now may well not after you've had some time to train with it.

I have no personal experience with PSA and I've no personal bias one way or the other. Objectively though I would rather start out with a rifle manufactured to a known set of standards with a solid reputation for turning out reliable, durable weapons than a rifle assembled by a shop to an unknown standard with a reputation based on a limited number of rifles in the wild for a relatively short period of time. Until you're comfortable diagnosing and resolving performance issues with your AR you'd likely be best served buying a rifle from a manufacturer with a solid reputation for building tough and reliable weapons. Colt, Daniel Defense, and BCM all fit this criteria as do some others suggested here.

    That's my $0.02 anyway.

I'm no AR expert, l'm from a bolt rifle background (which is why l joined this site). That being said, everytime this question gets asked the people who know what their talking about say get a colt, why would they lie?

I have a 16" PSA carbine I assembled from one of their rifle kits and stripped lower. At this point in time I would recommend a PSA to anyone who doesn't mind that they may have to tinker a little to get the rifle running smoothly. That's what I had to do. Feed ramps needed some polishing to get it to feed reliably. PSA sent me a shipping label and took care of that. Barrel nut was just a little too tight, causing a bit of mis-alignment of the gas tube. I took care of that problem myself.

While I was never able to get through to PSA by phone, they answered my PMs and emails promptly. Customer service dealing with my problems was friendly & professional. If PSA stays the course they have set, they will soon have their teething problems sorted out. Once they do, the tinkering will be a thing of the past.

I don't think I could have gotten a rifle as good as the PSA for the same money I spent on it. It's a good value. If you want a rifle you won't have to tinker with, it would be better to spend the extra money and get a Colt or BCM. They are good values as well

Keep in mind that they are starting out and offering VERY good materials for a great price. A $500 CHF upper with Milspec BCG is pretty darn good.

They have pledged a commitment here to honor their product and do better on QC. I would BET that they are paying quite special attention to feed ramps and gas tubes, and they ARE doing test firing of assembled products according to their post here.

I always think that it is BEST to pick an airline to fly with soon after they have a technical problem.

Not ALL top tier producers are reachable by phone.

There has been a top tier producer that has turned out a barrel so bad that the rifle would not function. Not a gas tube. Not something fixed by a polish - a BAD barrel. They fixed it pronto, but problems happen.

PSA has a good rep here on many levels, and are taking the heat and dealing with it - at least by all appearances.

I ordered the Patrol rifle combo. I thought it would be fun to test the FN CHF barrels and the Aimpoint PRO.

Regrettably, the company stumbled quite a few times, gave me 4 shipping dates, told me their products were back ourdered agasint their policy, and at one point, did not know where the rifle was. They finally sent me a shipping label confirmation, but the rifle sat in their warehouse for a few more days...waiting for a part they said they weren't waiting for (after so much frustrating contact, they didn't even give me a free sticker, or hat, or magazine, or Breakfast burrito...LOL!!)

That being said, I finally got the carbine. First thing I did was check the feed ramps.

As you can see the feed ramps are a little off, but after checking for a lip, it seemed to be aligned adequately enough to not hang up.

I test fired it, and went to zero the RDS. It shot great.

A few things that impressed me about the build.

    -staked castle nut
    -milspec receiver ext.
-high quality lower parts kit. DD if i remember the marks right
-mag that came with rifle had magpul follower
    -HP/mp bolt..black o ring installed.
    -carrier properly staked

only a couple things I wasn't pleased with.

-rear take down pin was so tight that i had to use a tool to move the darn thing. There is absolutely NO play between lower and upper, but I would rather have the play and be able to remove the pin with my hands.

-standard carbine buffer...not a biggie, I have a few H floating around, i replaced the buffer with 10 min after i got it.

I decided it would be fun to keep the carbine black and paint the roll marks. I had an old MOE carbine HG, so I threw it on till I could get a longer FF tube on it. (I am 6'5", and would like to grip the hand-guard about where the muzzle break starts.

Would I buy again from palmetto. Probably not for a few months at least.. Ill give them time to straighten themselves out, and smooth out the Snafus that accompany rapid growth.

I don't go with that anymore.....

I was told that with a BCM, back when they were 800, when I had close to the money saved, the rifle was up to 1000.

I went with PSA dissy upper, and a Noveske lower (got it cheap at a gun show) and am happy. No issue with either.

I will go with PSA again soon. I will most like go complete rifle.

ALL TOP TIER have put out lemons, have had customers not mesh well with CS etc.etc. PSA is new so every infraction is amplified when competeing with the "big boys".

Trying not to be a cheeleader here...but all the things I've ordered upper, bitz, LKP's, receiver ext. nut etc.etc. are very comperable to the "top tier" stuff and half the cost.

Not trying to discredit the ones that had issues either. But it seems to be a fraction compared to satisfied customers. Isn't it how it is with other reputable companies? A fraction of issues compared to the nonissues.

At the time I was shopping was getting hit upon hit of great reviews, dealing with PSA. As soon as I order it, within two weeks all these "issies" come out and spread like wild fire.

I had some questions I wanted answered about the PSA FN sourced HF barrels. Here is their reply.

    Thanks for the inquiry.

On our FN sourced barrels, FN cuts the profile, installs the M4 barrel extensions, drills the gas ports, cuts and crowns the muzzle, threads the end of the barrel, roll marks the barrel, phosphate coats the barrel, does the high pressure test and Mag particle inspects each one. We do not get FN barrel blanks, we get fully finished barrels from FN.

Let me know if you need any further assistance.
