My only experience with OPS-INC is the 12th model on an SPR. The can is very nice in that application, but was big and heavy.

I too have been looking at the M4-M model (as well as the M4-1000) as most of my shooting these days is done indoors and cutting the blast down on my 14.5" Carbine would be a very nice thing. About the only drawback I can see is that I would not be able to mount the can on my 10.5" MK18, however I really have little desire to run a can to death on such a short barrel.

Does Smith still make the Vortex OPS-INC adapter? I always though one of those on an M4 barrel would be pretty neat.

ADCO makes an extension adaptor for use with 10.5" barrels (isn't as ideal as another inch of barrel, but it does work).

SEI does still make their SBV OPS-Inc adapter - I can dig up the PN# if you'd like, but finding it is more difficult than figuring out that it exists.

Does anyone know what the dB reduction rating of the M4-M is? How would it compare to that of the AAC Mini4?

The M4-M is probably in the db reduction area that the Mini4 is in but I guess we won't really know for sure until someone is willing to do some testing.

Heck, I'd love to see some numbers on all the models but nobody seems interested in doing that. I'd be glad to travel anywhere with mine and have them tested. I don't have the financial means to conduct testing myself and I really don't want to get into that game.

Thanks for the quick reply, Accuser. You beat me to the PM I just sent you lol.

Even in that regard tons of newer suppressor buyers try and narrow down the difference to just a two-digit number to compare cans, and wind up with completely warped sets of expectations. [Pitch, duration, directionality, resonant tones are all things that are hard to attach a simple number to, and are easier to experience]

Anything between 20-24dB reduction at the user end is going to be pretty noticeable, and probably where the M4M, Mini4, and SF Micro cans end up. Still not ear safe, but a significant improvement especially if indoors.

Yeah I certainly realize that I won't be able to tell a difference between a few dBs, so that isn't my most important feature for a can. I am either building or buying a 10.5" MK18 for HD use, and will use it suppressed 99% of the time. I think, for me, the most important feature is compactness, so I'm looking across the board at all the "mini" suppressors to see which ones may offer the best suppression.

After going through the Vickers HD/Shoothouse class with my pinned 14.5", I know that I can comfortably clear a doorway with a 16.1" barrel (including FH). The extra half inch that the M42K would add may be negligible, while offering better suppression than a mini can, BUT my main question is how will a mini can sound indoors? For instance, between a M42K and the Mini 4, will there be a noticeable difference in sound if a round is fired indoors? Will the sonic crack of the round negate the extra suppression that a full size can gives you over a mini?

Would an AAC Ranger2 work? Sure it's thread on but, at $550 MSRP with 4.2" of added length it seems to be a good trade off. At less then 16 oz it's not that heavy either. It's not reflex so, all you need is exposed threads in front of those "long" rails.

Speaking from personal experience, I really don't need the QD systems and the cost of mounts is hard to justify if you're a cheap bastard. How many of us really move around a suppressor enough to justify the mount expense.

    Hmmm ... 3X$180 Ops-Inc mounts = $540. I bet I could find someone to discount the Ranger2 by $10.

Thread on is fine for plinking. Centerfire silencers get hot with a mag or two through them, like burn your hand bad hot when you check your thread on silencer for tightness.

I agree. Not that I'd rely on said numbers to make a final decision, but it'd be a nice metric to have when making a decision.
