THE 1886 IS ONE FINE RIFLE

I have been working on this project for a long time and it is ready for you to look at.
The gun is a Winchester 1886 45/70 new production that I cut down.
Guns like this are not that common around my parts but they sure are fun to shoot and carry.

One of the things I have tried to get all my life is more rounds on the gun so I had a guy build me a side saddle and two-shot forearm mount that I have tested now and feel it is the way to go.

I adapted a scout rail to the gun and a steel peep and front sight .

I cut the stock to 12-inch LOP and set the gun up inside for slick operation.

I will get a sling on it next what do you guys think about my work?

Beautiful job, Joe! Of course, we've come to expect that from you...

The cartridge carrier setup is slick. I especially like the 2 round forearm carrier. Is the receiver carrier mounted with hook and loop?

The one I saw in his shop was indeed Velcro-based. You adhere the loop pad to the receiver with a special adhesive, if I recall correctly.

It is a velcro system that I had a guy custom make it is nice.
The system works on all the lever guns I think from this point on it will be on all my guns.
I had it in class with Hackathorn and he loved it.

    Thank you for the compliment.

Neat! That looks like a great solution.

About what do they run? Are they compatible with .30-30 as well as 45-70? I may be interested in grabbing at least a pair of the two-shot forearm holders to start with. One for the 336 and one for the 1895SBL.

The cost is $32.00 plus shipping apiece. It is the best setup that I have seen to date.
It will work with 45/70 and or 30-30 -- just keep them separate.
As it turns out, the side saddle is nice as it can be. I will be using one for a long time to come.

This is probably one of the neatest carbines I have ever seen. Simple and elegant, and no doubt it packs one hell of a punch. That micro looks right at home up there. I wonder if there would be any possible way to get an under-slung light on there, maybe clamp it under the barrel forward of the magazine tube so as not to protrude to either side? Maybe that would booger up the simplicity of this build, but a light would be icing on the cake. Its amazing how capable this 1886 probably is as compared to some of the the space-age designs and accessories you see around the forums.

    Very nice weapon, sir.

You can run a light on the gun.
It just makes it a little less elagent for pics.

I just now saw another thread about one of your lever guns, the one with the offset mount with a SF G2 or similar off to the upper left of the forend....looks sweet. Great work.
