Whether or not you're a hardcore shooter or casual enthusiast, why buy substandard equipment? Colt is not the holy grail, Colt is the benchmark, the measuring stick, the standard.

I guess I misunderstood the initial hate for the r guns and Spikes bolts....
Is Colt the only reputable manufacturer that sells coated bolts? I did not see BCM selling any......and I know Spikes is not well liked here....
BCM used to sell Ion Bond coated BCG's but I don't see them on their site anymore.

I have about 2000 rounds on my Spikes Tactical NB BCG and it is a sweet BCG but I went with it because I have the NB Battle Trigger on my gun and it went well with it. I also Own a Colt LE6920 and I prefer my Spikes to it. Not everyone needs to spend 1500-2000 to get a quality rifle. If I was going to play in the sandbox I would have no problem taking a Spikes, BCM, or Colt.
The standard BCG is a tried and true option so don't get caught up in the "latest and greatest" crap that AR guys try to push. Unless you are running Full Auto or are lazy and don't like to clean and lube your BCG, then Nickle Boron is just a bells and whistles feature in my opinion.

Yeah you're right. Colt or go home right? Tell you what, Lets put 4 rifles up against each other and see which one breaks first. Carbine Length, 16" barrel, you know "the Standard" and see which ones perform the longest. We will use Colt, Spikes, BCM, and LMT. I guarantee you we will be at the range for a very long time running them through hell. Why?, because all of them have a quality reputation behind them and are built to withstand the abuse thrown at them. So why does every weekend warrior need a Colt in order to be able to keep up? They are great guns, if they weren't I wouldn't own one but for christ sake people. You don't need to drop 1200 on a rifle in order to keep up. Hell half of the Rifles our miltary uses are made by FNH. They still work don't they? Run right there with the Colts and Armalites. Oh remember that "the standard, the benchmark" rant? Armalite? Ringing any bells?
Armalite today is NOT the same company that used to make guns. The people making them today bought the name. Just like Springfield Armory is not the old Springfield Armory that used to make military guns. The current Armalite is not making complete military rifles.
FNH cannot sell AR type rifles on the commercial market, and they are still made to the TDP (the ones the military uses).
You can buy a DD, Colt, or BCM for under 1k.
Hate all you want, but if you are running a can, NiB cleans up faster, i still oil mine though. I am not a clean freak, i don't clean after every shoot, NiB makes my life easier.
easier to clean,
its a BCG, it doesn't work better or worse because of who made it, or what its been coated with, if the gun fires....it works
What matters if it was made to spec, and has the proper tolerances as well as assembly. The OP stated he was not impressed with Spike's staking of the gas key bolts which is crucial to ensuring the gas key does not come loose down the road.
So, yes, it does matter who makes it. If they cannot stake the bolts properly vs. a company that does stake stuff correctly.![]()
