My patrol rifle is too heavy

I wanted to ask a little advice here, I feel like my patrol rifle is too damn heavy when I need to lug it around for extended periods of time. I'd like to lighten it up, by changing out some of the accessories... little by little as the budget permits. However, I don't want to lose any capabilities. Here is my rifle and its modifications:

    -Colt LE6940
    -EOTech 516
-Magpul ACS stock (4 CR123 batteries).
    -MIAD grip
    -Magpul trigger guard
    -Phase 5 EBRv2
-Viking Tactics Surefire with Viking Tactics mount
-Tango Down QD full length VFG
-Redi-mag with one extra 30 round mag (magpul mags).

I know the Redi-mag with an extra 30 round mag is the #1 source of extra weight, but this is a capability I don't want to lose. If I only have time to grab the rifle and go, I like having two mags on the gun, without worrying about grabbing extra mags.

What can I do to save a few ounces on my setup? Thanks for any advice.

two things i changed on my front end were i switched from a surefire + viking tactics mount toa streamlight TLR-1. and a broomhandle style VFG to the magpul RFG. the RFG is hollow and lightweight, and feels great in my hand, though i do use a thumb break method.... If you don't use what i call the boxing stance while shooting and wrap a thumb up over the handguard it's certainyl worth checking into.

My barrel is also 1.5 inches shorter than yours, and I really enjoy that littel bit off the front end vs a 16 inch. It makes it much more comfortable to disengage my support hand while still keeping the weapon at ready.

    Btw, sweet looking rig!

First problem is that its a monolithic upper. Those run extra heavy. I have an LMT CQB and a regular LMT defender. the CQB upper weighs a ton more!
That is where your main weight is coming from. if you can afford a different upper, put a drop in rail, it would weigh a lot less. hope that helps. Besides the upper itself the redimag doesnt help but you said thats a definite need.

    good luck!

This is something I've been thinking of doing, changing the light to the TLR-1 or X300 and getting a stubby VFG. When shooting I do the thumb over the handguard and the VFG is more of a hand stop, but when walking around I'm normally beer canning the VFG, especially when using the light. I would prefer a 1.5" barrel, but I'm stuck with this because I don't have the balls to cut a Colt barrel and perm attach a flash hider lol.

first things that come to mind...
    -SBR to 11.5'' or 10.5''
-replace the Eotech with an Aimpoint Micro
-replace the ACS with something else
-a Surefire scoutlight could be lighter than your curret setup but I'm not sure on this

as for the readimag I've seen pics where someone shaved off the weight by removing some material

Unfortunately I can't SBR because I'm in California and my department requires us to have a 16" barrel or a 14.5" with perm attach flash hider/comp. However, about the redi mag, a friend of mine did shave off some of the material on his and it saves some weight. So I might ask him to do that for me.

Swap out the upper for a BCM lightweight profile barrel with magpul moe and run a light mount from iwc or magpul.

Oh i understand not wanting to cut your colt barrel.... I wouldn't want to either. I gotta tell you, the TLR-1 is really nice for me, i can easily transition from perm on or temp on. They're like 90 bucks, the RFG is 20ish dollars. these two things could be cheap fixes, comparatively. when you weigh them against buying a new upper and a quad rail to boot! though... if you saved some bucks up for it, BCM 14.5 perm attached FH and a DD omega rail would run you about 700.00 to your door, You could use your colt BCG and charging handle. You could even get a cheaper drop in rail system provided you don't absolutely require free float . With troy and MI quad rails running 125-150 per. food for thought. And though i won't say you loose nothing at all going from a colt upper to bcm, it's marginal at best!

Edited to say : I cna't say i have experience with the ACs stock, but it does look pretty heavy! try out a cheap-o( in price cheap, not in general terms cheap) MOE stock too maybe!

    Here's what I would do.

    1. Get rid of the Redi-mag and get a Surefire 60 round magazine.

    2. Get rid of the ACS and get a Magpul CTR or Vltor IMOD.

    3. Ditch the EoHell and get an Aimpoint PRO.

    4. Get a Surefire X300

    5. Get a Tango Down stubby QD or lose it all together.

You have a heavy gun due to the monolithic system. The 6940's are a little heavier, but of course they are silly accurate as well.

Someone mentioned a BCM lightweight upper. That will definitely help the pig lose weight, but you will stll need rails or an MOE handguard. If you get the MOE you can still mount the X300 and a VFG.
