He may not be deploying to a combat zone in which prolonged exposure and abuse will be applied to his rifle, but in a situation where he needed to employ it,(he said patrol rifle) it would more than likely be a high adrenaline situation and I don't not want a plastic lower receiver on a rifle that my life depends on.

I agree that the 60round mag could be a problem. Id like to have a second 30 just in case the first mag in has some kind of failure.
At least you have another mag ready to go.

Ive seen unconventional methods of mag carriers being attached to stocks. If you swap out your stock to something like an MOE and drop the redimag for a stock mounted carrier, it wont be as fast but at least its on board.
**disclaimer** iv never used a stock mounted carrier so if their trash I have no idea.

Obvious there's your light and VFG and others have added input on that so I wont.

Along the lines of my first post, Midway is having a sale on Aimpoint T1s on Thursday for $500. that would cut weight as well as the weight of additional batteries.

Someone else already mention your sling as an instigator, I agree. Iv had light weight rifles feel like 240s after a few hours because the sling sucked. I still haven't found my soul mate in sling options so I cant recommend you anything.

    1) ditch the acs and get a moe, ctr, or lmt stock... heck, even a standard m4.
    2) ditch the redi mag. not sure i'd go with the 60 rd surefire at this point, though.
    3) ditch the light mount and get a danger close skeletonized mount (or get a surefire x300).
    4) obviously, the eotech has to go. that's a big no-no. get an aimpoint micro OR trijicon rmr... they are VERY lightweight.
    5) if you want to run an vfg, get a magpul rvg... they are light and made well.
other then that, i can't think of anything besides ditching the upper or having the barrel profiled. let us know how it goes!

Thanks for all the quick responses. Just to add to some of my limitations.. I can't change out my lower unless I sell my Colt lower and then wait to get approved for a new lower. Since the lower is the registered firearm, I can only have one "assault weapon" in CA because of our new department policy not allow us to own more than one... (some fool tried to buy an UZI on a department letter and ruined it for all of us).

Changing the the upper is an option, but I'd rather not spend that kind of coin at this time. And I didn't think my rifle weighed much before I started loading it up with crap.

I am interested in changing out the EOTech, but I wasn't a fan of the Aimpoint micro sights, I didn't like the 20mm tube and the 4MOA dot. I have a slight astigmatism so anything about 2MOA dots don't look very good. EOTechs and 2MOA Aimpoints look great though.

I think my first order of business will be changing the light out for a Surefire X300 and grabbing a snub VFG, probably the Magpul one suggested since its so cheap and Magpul stuff is always well made.

I've been eyeballing the IMOD stock too, so I'll probably give that a try. I just worry about it being loose compared to my ACS stock.

I'm still on the fence regarding the removal of the redi-mag. I don't have a good system where I can quickly grab an extra mag along with the rifle in an emergency, since I keep the rifle up front. Sure 99% of our rifle calls are perimeter positions and if there was a shooting it would be 1-2 shots, but I worry about the one in a million incidents where you roll up to a bank robbery and start getting shot at immediately or a school shooter incident where I dont have time to get all geared up. I know those don't happen often, but it could happen.

There is a new lighter version of the Redi Mag available now: Machined Aluminum Redi Mag

The SOPMOD stock is a few ounces lighter than the ACS, but you'll lose the quick access to the storage tubes. The next lightest stock is the IMod and then the CTR.

My patrol rifle is LE6920 w/DD rail, T1, GearSector stubby, VCAS, Ergo grip, SF M300A in a GearSector mount and a IMOD...plus a PMAG of course.

My beat partners pick it up and the first thing they say is it's definitely lighter than their LWRC or 6940's. But a majority of them run alot of crap on their rifles. Redi-Mags or mag couplers, EoTech's, big ass VFG's and whatever the local shop can talk them into the bestest tacti-cool shit they can find.

I am curious to see if going to a VTAC or Troy 13" battle rail will help at all.

I ditched a LaRue FUG for the GearSector and a CTR for the Imod.

Noticed a difference with the FUG switch out but not much with the CTR.

As far as stock options go, I agree 100% with switching the ACS out with a Vltor IMOD. I recently did that exact thing last week and (from what it felt like) saved a noticeable amount of weight. There should be a recent thread about it that I started.

I suppose because I am not in your situation, and do not have all the info, but it seems to me like the convenience of your accessories as you have chosen them, and your legal restrictions may be outweighing your need to go lighter. It does not seem like you will likely be lugging your rifle around on long term deployments frequently, but you do want what your add-ons bring. Everything is give and take, so maybe you sacrifice weight for capability. In other words, if you like the stock, keep it. if you need the redi-mag, keep it. You have a great rifle, and not a lot of money to alter it...so maybe you don't change much.

Grab a Magpul CTR it clamps down like the ACS I have owned both and like both. Then again just taking out the batteries is going to bring down the weight.

You're right that I do enjoy the convenience of the accessories, but after handing a few of my coworkers rifles I was like... wtf? mine is too damn heavy! That's why I've I wanted to look at some other options for the accessories I have to make it a bit lighter.

I won't be lugging it around on long term foot patrols in a desert, but when it is out I notice the weight. A few weeks ago I was working a large perimeter for a dangerous / armed suspect so I was checking all the vehicles leaving my perimeter with my rifle. Holding the rifle one handed while opening a trunk and keeping the rifle on target was a bit difficult after awhile.

There are some very good recommendations already, so here are a few others:

-Have the barrel reprofiled to LW.
-Drop the 30 rounders and go with 20 rounders. This will save a significant amount of weight, and will still retain enough ammo in the gun for all but the most dire of enemy counter-attacks, and still have another mag on the gun for a reload/bad mag issue. (the AL RediMag is intriguing as well)
-Drop the ACS and 123s for a MOE or CTR
    -Lighter light (X300, M300)
