I would get rid of the redi mag + mag and maybe the ACS first before getting new optics. Those will be the biggest weight savings for the buck. Weight savings vs price for doing other things like changing optics isnt going to be as efficent.

Im not seeing how people are getting 8oz savings for a T1, are yall are forgetting the mount youll need for it, which is another 3oz or so. So maybe 5oz of savings for the optics change when the Eotech 516 weighs around 11.9oz

Duh sorry did not realize that was what I was looking at. Hate that gun. I would rather have a 6920 and be able to change some things.

I agree. I know it is very accurate, but that comes at a cost and in my book it's not totally worth it.

One thing to consider on the redi mag/mag coupler vs a mag stowed on your duty belt is this. Yes the rifle will weigh more and be harder to carry however the mag on your person will be with you all day during the 99% of the time you are not even using your rifle. I added a Springer precision mag coupler to my Ar and took the mag off my belt to save on weight. As I get older lower back issues are starting to crop up and I would rather not carry any more weight on my belt than I have to. Thats another reason I like the external vest carriers we use it keeps even more stuff off my belt. All I have on my belt is my pistol, two spare mags and the radio. The rest is on the vest.

Given the fact that it is a monolithic upper. It would cost you more to fiddle with it rather than sell the upper and buy another one that was lighter. You might even come out ahead in cost and have a lighter upper.

There is a guy around where I live that went pretty extreme with his lightweight build. Skeletonized BGC, delrin plastic buffer, pencil barrel, A1 birdcage, plastic cav15 lower. I personally would not do all that stuff, but I have seen it done.

I would just sell the monolithic and get a DD lightweight 14.5 with a troy rail system. But you do what makes the most sense for your situation.

Lots of good input so far.

I carried a Redi Mod for a while, I ditched it becaues it was too heavy and bulky for me. I did not like the balance of the weapon/handling. When I was younger I liked the added weight! Now I grab the gun from it's case and a spare mag from my pocket. I also carry an Eagle Patrol Bandoleer with 4 30's and 2 pistol mags that I can grab if I have time.

If you want to stick with the second mag go for a Redi Mod BFG has a great sale on them right now and you get a new BFG sling with it

Drop the stock for a MOE, I have a spare set of CR123's in a MOE, it works well for me. Colt uppers sell well, people love the Pony. You could sell it and buy a lighter upper. I use MOE handguards and a MOE VFG on my rifles. If a H1/T1 works for your eyes try one, the battery life is much longer.

Having a second magazine is not just about having more rounds. A spare magazine also gives you a solution to the possible problem of a magazine malfunction. Having that spare with you or on the rifle is a much better plan than having the cached in your vehicle since you can't always stay near it.

To the OP I would suggest some sort of belt mounted magazine pouch, or if your Department will allow it something on a vest. My department issues us vests that we wear over our shirts. If you have that option a molle style vest with a mag pouch attached to it would be an option.

    To the OP.

I am not tiring to be a dick; but if you like the set up and just don't like the weight, go to the gym. How long are you carrying it around that it is too much? I know that no one wants to carry a 240 and ammo all over but we do.
In no way do I make any money from anyone related to the firearms industry.

The physical weight of the thing doesn't bother me much, I should have posted that I don't like the handling of it because of the weight. I could be Arnold Schwarzenegger and a 12lbs AR is going to handle differently than a 7lbs AR.

Just a quick update, I removed the Redi-Mag yesterday and put a 20 round mag in my front vest pouch for now, until I get a belt magazine carrier. This has made a huge difference in how the rifle handles. Weight wise and it eliminates the extra bulk from the side.

I took off the VFG and didn't see much different in how the gun felt, but I'm still going to get a stubby to replace it since I don't need a full length VFG anymore. Or I might just try some rifle deployments without it to see how I like the handling.

EOHell is on the chopping block list to be replaced with an Aimpoint, but not a micro since I don't like the small tube and 4MOA dot. Surefire X300 and IMOD stock has been placed on my christmas list

Long term plan is to eventually get a new upper, 14.5" barrel with pinned flash suppressor. I'll ultimately keep the 6940 upper because I love the accuracy of the thing, I'll probably just get a bullet button lower for it

Sorry I didn't get weight measurements yesterday because our scale at work was broke!
