Could all you geniuses please tell me how perming a fh after cutting to 14.5" is going to do anything? That is barely any metal removed and the only place than can service the Colt monolith is SAW.

This destroys the value of the weapon and prohibits you from changing the flash hider later should it become damaged or if you want to use a silencer.

I would get rid of the VFG.

    Switch to a Aimpoint T1

Go back to the factory Colt stock

    Use a X300 or Scout 300.

Get rid of the redi mag claptraption

All that shit the OP put on there doesn't need to be on there.

I have a buddy who had his 6920 shortened to 14.5 w/ a perm'd vortex. That's a decent amount of mass from the very tip of the lever and it was immediately noticeable. Next to another stock 6920, it was readily apparent. The OP is dealing with other issues that may mean this is not the best solution for him. I am not familiar enough with Cali law or his department policies. If he has already qual'd with this gun, it may be an enormous pain in the ass to switch uppers. My department considers a different upper to be a DIFFERENT GUN and you must re-qual with it. Which means you can't patrol with it until you've gone back to the range with a qualified instructor. There may be other issues at play here. It MAY be easier for the OP to send it to SAW to have the work done.

cutting the barrel pinning a FH is too much trouble to save a few oz.

That redimag + 1 mag is the culprit, a loaded mag already weighs a pound, not including the redi mag hardware. If you want to keep two mags together, maybe a coupler is lighter than the redimag

Sure, if that's the only reason for cutting a barrel. But he's gonna be in-and-around cars/vehicles and making entries into buildings. There are other secondary benefits to cutting a barrel. But weight reduction is immediately tangible even for me....and I work out.

I don't think a X300 is lighter then the light setup he's already using.

I don't believe my base rifle is super heavy as everyone is saying. It's 6.79lbs unloaded according to Colt's specs, and a 6920 is 6.95lbs unloaded (certainly a bit less if you remove the carry handle but then you have to add BUIS). So at this point I'm not going to go out and buy a new upper or lower. I am interested in a 14.5" barrel because it would help with removing it from the car as well as a little weight off the front. Barrel cutting or replacement is an option, but probably later down the road.

The immediate changes I will make is removal of the VFG and replacing it with something lighter AFG or RVG. Removal of the Redi-Mag, and placing one 20 round mag on my belt (need to find a good belt pouch). Placing two batteries in the grip instead of four in the stock. I'm not changing out the EOTech just yet, but that is something I'll get to in the future. I'll try these mods first and see how it feels/handles.

The fitness stuff mentioned is something I took serious after I attended our rifle school. I found the gun with all my crap on it heavy so I did start lifting more weights and work on upper body strength. The rifle is manageable now.. the reason I decided to lighten it up is because I handled some of my coworkers rifles and I was jealous of how light they were... and I felt like I had too much crap hanging off my gun.

I would like to find a nylon covered 20 round mag pouch for the duty belt since I have space. I have been looking online and can only find exposed magazine cases which I am not interested in. I don't feel like losing mags on foot pursuits or advertising to the world that I'm carrying an AR magazine.

    1. Get rid of the Redi-mag and get a Surefire 60 round magazine.

    2. Get rid of the ACS and get a Magpul CTR or Vltor IMOD.

    3. Ditch the EoHell and get an Aimpoint PRO.

    4. Get a Surefire X300

    5. Get a Tango Down stubby QD or lose it all together.

You have a heavy gun due to the monolithic system. The 6940's are a little heavier, but of course they are silly accurate as well.

Someone mentioned a BCM lightweight upper. That will definitely help the pig lose weight, but you will stll need rails or an MOE handguard. If you get the MOE you can still mount the X300 and a VFG.

    SPOT ON GUNZ!~!!!

.....if that does not fix your problem, "Buck the FC UP!!!" and get in the gym...LOL!!!

I wanted to expound on my choice of the Surefire magazine. For those that haven't actually touched it except on their computer screen, it is a little heavy, but the one that I have and used recently (500 rounds through it) worked fine and it actually seemed to balance the weapon out.

It also doesn't require bolting/screwing shit onto the weapon. I think that combined with the other recommendations the overall package would be lighter and handier. Obviously the only way to really know is the either do it, or find someone else that has a similar set up.

I can guarantee the first thing that would go would be the Redi-mag followed by the EOHell.
