Did that answer your question well enough?
Why are you so worried about "duty use" if you are placing it on a home defense gun that will live it's life at the range and in the corner of the bedroom?

There are beaucoup mofos that have abused the POOOOP out of their TRX Extreme rails. They stay on there, man. Believe me, I completely know what you are saying about how it doesn't seem feasible. But, they work.

I hear you man. Call it OCD if you like. It just bothers me. I figure I need at least one solid AR that I can have total confidence in. That not only means it has to have well designed parts, it also means I have to believe they are well designed parts. For me that will never happen with the TRX-E.

Daniel Defense makes a rail similar to the TRX-E

Out of TROY's own mouth, the clamp style TRX-E mount is a weak point & has had problems.

I changed my order this morning from the TRX-E to the Alpha. Still not too late to back-out or cancel entirely if I find something I like better but, since I can't find any good pics of the Alpha's internals / mounting system / install instructions, or anything... I'm willing to get it in hand and make a personal judgment call. We'll see I guess.

hmmmm, I just ordered the Alpha due to the 30%, but the screws on the barrel has me wondering.

Does that affect the free float?
Does it leave marks on/damage the barrel?

Me just making wild guesses here but I'd say it would not affect the free-float since it's so close to the barrel nut. There isn't any flex at all between those screws & the barrel nut anyway.

As for the screws damaging the barrel, maybe scratching the surface finish but that's about it. I wouldn't mind that as long as the mount is secure. Sure doesn't sound optimal though.

After doing some searching im not sure they touch the barrel.

There seems to be tabs inside that press against the front lip on the barrel nut. Or so someone said.

If you really need a free-float rail on a HD rifle, get a DD Lite rail and call it good. It's mounting interface is over-engineered and should satisfy your OCD.

I think the Alpha rail mounts a lot like the Apex rail. If you look at the installation instructions for Apex's rail they use a collar that clamps on the barrel nut and four set screws to attach the rail to the collar. The difference is that the Troy hides this collar under the rail where as Apex does not. Both are probably pretty secure.

I'm really digging the Apex rail though.
