JC, I know what you mean. I sold 2 home builds that were problem children from the word go and bought a Colt 6920. I just took the Colt to the range today for the first time and put 100 rds of Remington down range to see what the Colt/EOTech combo would do. I could not be happier, money well spent!

    No more "more expensive"

I have three CA compliant rifles, one is a registered AW. Two were build because of the OLL rule. I'm happy with all three and after reading all the back and forth on this topic I have one question.
If I were in the average carbine class how many rounds would I shoot in one day. I have put 1500 rounds thru my 3 rifles in one day with help from my son and his roommate. How does this compare with the classes? I haven't had a problem with them yet but I want to do my own destruction testing. The registered AW was built years before the ban and has done an average of 500 rounds a year. It hasn't given me any troubles, but I want to push it also to failure, if it will.

And this thread is different than the other 57 threads on this exact same issue how? Do we really need 3 more pages of examples and 'attaboys?

Honestly, it depends on the course in question. There is no concrete number on how many rounds per day you would see. I'd say anywhere from 500 rounds and up per day.

The reason why round count through a carbine class (or multiple carbine classes) is the "accepted" standard for validating a weapons reliability is because of the following:

    1. You will typically run the weapon harder than you ever have before.
    2. Round count varies, but as a general rule, 300-600rds a day is normal.
    3. You will shoot the gun no matter the weather. So if it is pouring rain, you will be shooting. This is not the "norm" for most people.

Besides all of the above, if you have NEVER attended a training class (pistol, shotgun or AR) and PLAN on using a weapon to defend yourself, then you are fool.

Grant, calling me a fool is a little harsh, you don't know me and my situation. How does my wanting to run my rifles to the point of failure make me a fool, If I run 500/1000 thru my rifle in less than 6 hours that should give me an idea if my build is good to go. I don't want to pay for a class and have the rifle quit in the middle.

I don't want to take a shooting class if they are like most of the videos I see as advertising for the classes. I've watched two guys walk up to the target shooting magazine after magazine. If you try to do that in the real world you would die before the first mag change. Even if your opponent was using a WW I rifle.

Who said you were a fool?

What I DID say is that anyone that has not attended a carbine class (or won't attend one) is a fool (especially if they plan on using that weapon to defend themselves with).

I have no idea what classes you have watched, but there are bad ones and good ones. If you stick with any of the Grey Group Training instructors (typically all former Tier 1 guys), you won't find any stupid chit (like mag dumps at 5ft).

As far as your carbine going TU on you during a class, it happens. This is why you try and run at least 500rds through a new gun PRIOR to attending a class. Then you take spare parts or even better yet, a spare rifle!

How does that even make sense?? I see M16A4 "clones" all of the time that use ACOG's and a KAC rail, but it's on a Del Ton kit or something. Your saving $200 on the rifle, yet you're adding a $1000 worth of gear.
my favorite is the guy who buys an ORC and immediately adds more than $500 worth of "upgrades". It seems to me that with companies like PSA and Spikes offering good stuff at $6-800, as well as Colt dropping their prices, there is no reason to even consider DPMS, BM, Oly, etc.
