Benelli M3 super 90 worth picking up for 850?

have a chance to pick up a benelli m3 super 90 from a buddy for about $850.

    50rds through it
    HK import marked
    pistol grip
    7+1

been reading about it on here. was looking to see if the m3 has any issues vs the m1, m2 or m4. can't seem to find any big negatives.

    semi/pump system reliable?

saw one comment about the semi/pump knob being made from plastic and that it can break. any experiences out there with this?

    overall thoughts?

have an 870. thought i might pick up the benelli.

    thx.

    I would. Always wanted one.

I am sure some one will come along with some experience as to the good/bad points of the M3.

    The knob is replaceable.

The one big thing you're gonna run into trouble with is if you want to mount a light. I have an M3S90 and still haven't found a method of mounting a light. (Surefire doesn't make a forend, etc.)

The other issue (for me anyways) is that the stock LOP was rather long. This I was able to fix, thanks to reading a member post about chopping the stock down here.

If you want a nice semi, it's a good pick, especially for that price. After a little break in, mine has runs decently well, although it prefers stouter loads and not light target stuff.

It all kind of depends on what you want to use it for in the end.

I picked up an M3S90 a couple of years ago...by far, my favorite long gun. Never a problem with the pump or semi-auto actions....pretty easy to switch between both.

I, too, have seen a few going for decent prices lately at a local gun shop.

The tag says "Ready to covert to semi-auto". Are they both, or do I have to mod it?

i picked up the M3 for a fair amount less than he was asking. got to shoot it over the holidays. worked great in semi and pump. glad i bought it.

no mods. there's ring on the fore end to switch from semi to pump and back. fast and simple to switch on the fly.

My first gun was a Benelli M3. It has worked perfectly since the day I bought it.

You won't regret it. I am currently looking for a light mounting option, I'll let you know how it goes.

You ever check out the BLAM4 for adding a light to the M3, don't know if it will work, but for the price it certainly is worth testing|adapting?

It certainly is a great addition for the M4.

Looks good, I wonder if it'd work with the M3 though. Every once in a while I look up barrel clamps like this one, and then get dismayed because the description says M1, M2, and M4, deliberately omitting the M3. Makes me hesitant to order one just to try it out, since if it doesn't work, I'm hosed.

If I could find someone who has a working one on an M3, I'd order it and get a light on it in a heartbeat.

On the M4 you remove the sling plate retainer, discard the attachment plate and install the BLAM4.

Went to Brownells and checked out the schematic for the M3 and it certainly looks like it will work. M3 has a forend cap then the sling ring magazine, reference below link. I would order the BLAM4 from Brownells and see if it will work on the M3, if not you can return without any questions.

If you do decide to order one, keep us posted.

note: you might have too have the MOE rail facing the front of the barrel. Actually that is the way to have the light further up the barrel.

Don't like the the Mesa Clamp you referenced, on the M4 you need to have a Allen-wrench too break the weapon down.
