i chose the "cheap" way and installed lighter springs from JP.

after cleaning and lubing with the new springs installed, the standard trigger breaks at 4 lbs. works for me.

Yeah, but you do realize the hammer will now hit the primer with less force than with standard spring?
Your hammer is heavier than the JP hammer. Also, JP recommends the red, not yellow hammer spring for self defense or tactical use, particularly with mil spec primers.
Would think you are taking a chance on reliable ignition, but I may be wrong...
Nothing wrong with JP stuff. I use their complete FCG, with red hammer spring. No issues after thousands of rounds.

What type of triggers are you used to on other firearms?

I put a SD-E in and it is outstanding. However, it breaks at 3.5#. If I was to do it again I would get the SD-C that breaks at 4.5 to 5# which is a little better for a fighting gun.

I am a 1911 guy and have a few with outstanding triggers that break at 4# so I am kind of use to it. However, if you shoot a service pistol with SA/DA or other heavy duty trigger the SD-E may be to light.

Plus the SD C is on sale for $170 right now.

yes, i do realize that...i reload my ammo and use appropriate primer; i do not use the mil-surp or foreign ammo.

my main preference for the M4 is not "combat/CQB"...i like using it more in the 'sporting' field; hunting predators.

    thanks for the reminder, though.

Geissele is the only company I would use, for after market triggers. Not sure about the Timmeys yet?

On the first AR I built I used the CMMG match trigger and it was/is pretty nice (light).
The next AR I got a 3 lb Timney ~ it is good too but it is a single stage and pulls like a very nice 1911 > crisp and virtually no take up. This is more suited for a hunting trigger which I will be moving to my 6.8 hog gun.
The next AR I built a 20" SDM and put in the Geissele Match adjustable trigger > simply amazingly smooth, light, predictable and precise.
However, at the NRA show after talking with the guys at the Geissele booth and trying the SSA-E > it was 95% of the Match at $80-$90 less.
I have built three more AR's all with this (SSA-E) trigger.
I am satisfied I have found my niche trigger.
    YMMV

I have Timney, Jard and JP triggers. All of which I like, but as others have written I would not use any of them in my Patrol Rifle. I have always used the original AR trigger in those. Also, the factory trigger is a department requirement, but even if it wasn't I would still use one.
