I hear you. I was happy at looking at how the restricter moved in and out of the gas path. I quit at that.

Has anyone got thousands of rounds through one of these? I'm wondering how the adjustment screw tip holds up to the high pressure gas. It seems like the screw would get chewed up pretty quickly.

I don't see that being a problem based on some of the insertable gas ports I've been messing with. But I'd be interested to hear/see this too.

I wish I had mine in action. I'd love to test it out for myself.

The only variable that I can't account for is the hardness of the steel used for the pin, but if it's anywhere near as hard as the barrel, then I would imagine that you could probably shoot out 2-3 barrels before the pin erodes enough to be useless.

This is based on what I have seen on GP erosion vs round count. Also, you have quite a bit of adjustability with that set screw before you shut the gas off completely, so that just means that you'll have "that much" adjustment to compensate for an eroding pin.

    Hope that makes sense.

I've followed this block since it was first announced on TOS.
In that first announcment thread there were discussions/questions as to the choice of spring (metal) used and the potential for failure under the high heat it sees inside of a gas block.
If I remember correctly, Jason basically said it was more than adequate and he hadn't seen any issues in his own testing and hasn't heard of any issues related to springs out from his customer base in later communications with him.
That was about the only thing that has ever come up, besides the potential long-term erosion of the internals.
IMO, this is another unit with moving parts. I would not expect it to last forever, but certainly through the life of a barrel. It's definitely GTG. If/when I ever shoot out a barrel, I will disassemble this at that point and clean/check things out.

    3. Have Mill, Lathe and other machine shop tools.... must make stuff (or buy it when it is a better path.... and has machining done on NC gear not practical with a manual/no DRO equipment).
    4. Not broken, must fix/disassemble. (or in actual order.... Not Broken -> Disassemble -> Must Fix)

On second thought, I would guess most of us on this board are hands on folks... it is only natural to want to see how cool stuff works.

Then again, it would be easy to lose an eye with many spring tensioned assemblies.... Browning 1919 bolt recoil spring, 1911 and similar....SYRAC tiny ball bearing pressure part with heavy action spring....

They're still showing out of stock on the .750" version http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts...66-101741.aspx Not in stock at Midway either. I'll just have to be patient...
I guess I should have specified the set-screw version, not the clamp on.

So i've read all the replies and what nots, but didn't come across an answer that speaks to me...

Which gas position is best for the adjustable gb? I mean, would this be ok for a 14.5" middy? I recently purchased an Afghani barrel that didn't come with a pinned gb.
