I currently have no plans to run a suppressor on this rifle.

I'll have to measure the gas port once it arrives but I expect it to be within spec. It's a Rainier Arms Mountain Barrel (Rainier Arms Mountain Series™ Cold Hammer Forged Barrel 5.56mm NATO - 16 Mid Weight

I'd have to guess that rainier will be gassed right. I'd just run a standard gas block if you have any interest in saving money. If money isn't an issue at all, go for it.

FN CHF midlengths have .078" gas ports, unless they've changed it recently. That's considered a proper size, though you may find some improvement in smoothness going down to .072" via an adjustable gas block, depending on your ammo and buffer setup.

Ammo will be a mix of IMI, PMC bronze and my reloads. As far as my buffer setup, initially I was going to put an H buffer in it.

You don't need a gas block. With that barrel, you could go H2 or even H3 if you really wanted to change stuff up. (I'd start with an H2 if you want a nice balance)

I knew you were going to recommend an H2 after reading a lot of your posts on the matter. Will have to order myself one along with the gas block.

I think that even though I may not need it that I'm going to get one of these blocks anyway. Who knows, I may suppress it at some point and the $30-$40 difference isn't that much of a cost difference.

    Thanks for the advice.

Anyone know if there is a problem with shaving these down some? I have a 9.5 CMR on the way and plan on using this gas block.

Where do you figger it's going to rub? You could take some off the bottom for sure. Maybe a little off the top, but I'd be careful there.

I figure if anything it will rub on the bottom. Hopefully I wouldn't have to remove anything from the top.

Yeah. Mine fit tin the KMR, but one of the rail section fasteners was too close to the block. I shaved .030" or so off of the fastener....

But there's probably room to shave the bottom of the block where none of the moving parts are.
