Primary reason: they are in areas they don't belong. They originally only inhabited the western Midwest and southwestern areas of the U.S. They now are all over the country, even up to Alaska, where they definitely don't belong. They reduce deer populations, kill wild turkeys and destroy their nests, as well as ducks.
But what then is capital punishment but the most premeditated of murders, to which no criminal's deed, however calculated it may be, can be compared? - Albert Camus

How about population control of both Coyotes as well as coy dogs?

How about checking the spread of mange in both the coyote population as well as the domestic dog population.

How about protection for domestic livestock and domestic pets?

How about sales of pelts if they are in good shape?

How about hunting within rules that are set by the state biologist and game departments?

Do I need to go on?

If you have a specific argument against hunting in general I am sure a thread could be started where logical debate could take place. I'm not big on opinions without reasonable and articulable facts.

This doesn't even touch on how difficult it is to shoot a coyote without using dogs, which at least a couple were judging by the call in the pics.

    Wow...

Coyotes are a nuisance animal in most localities. Their impact on stock and small game is well know. People in my area have even lost pets to them. Just today a guy down the road showed me pictures ( he got the whole thing on a trail cam) of two yotes taking down a 140 class 8 point.

Since in most places they have nothing higher up in the food chain to watch out for the populations can rapidly get out of control. Man now has to fill that void.

    Honor, how about balance?

    To get back on track…
I agree with QS and would rather have a few solid firearms than a gun safe full of low end stuff. That being said let your buddy buy the R-15. He already owns some quality rifles so what is the harm if he just wants one to plink/hunt with. Or try and talk him into building a new rifle with quality parts. If he is hung up on the camo dip there are several shops that offer that service.

Do I need to go on? No. The people who want to bitch about hunting predatory animals just do not understand that some people's livelihoods depend on hunting them.. ie. protecting their livestock, which is my #1 reason

Very true on all aspects. We do not use dogs and in fact I very much dislike the use of greyhounds. I think its brutal and doesn't give the coyote a sporting chance. I've never done it and I'm sure those that do hunt with dogs don't see it brutal or unsporting, AND I AM FINE WITH THAT. I don't go single them out with a one-lined post. We call all of our coyotes, more than one of those was called in using only my mouth. Talk about difficult and exciting! Having a hungry coyote looking for dinner charging in less than 10 yards away, man that's when it gets exciting.
