I say keep the DPMS and run the snot out of it, kinda like Pat did to Filthy 14 and see how far it will go. Take it to a carbine course and just torture the heck out of it.
Of course if anyone would think this is unsafe then scratch that idea.
I have been where the OP is. I bought a cheap rifle, a Bushmaster for $600 and later learned of the qualitative differences between various makers. Since you have already shot the DPMS and you are not in a position to pony up the extra for a Colt (pun intended), I would keep the DPMS for the interim and start saving now towards a Colt. If you can save $50 or $100 a month you are only a few months away from having the extra needed for a DD/BCM/Colt and you can then sell the DPMS and get what you like. If you are fortunate like me, then you might actually make money on the DPMS. I hung onto my Bushampster and ended up selling after Obama was elected for more than 3 times what I paid for it...

You have already put 300 rounds through the weapon so shooting it more isn't going to reduce the value of it. As a couple of others have said keep shooting it, don't put anymore money into it, start putting away what you can every month and when you get enough to purchase a better weapon sell the DPMS to make up the difference you may need.
I can't see putting money into a LPK when you could put that towards a new weapon. Think of it this way. If you put $100 a month away and can sell you DPMS for $500 you can get a Colt from Grant in 5 months or so. 5 months will fly by.
