    Aimpoint Preference?

For you guys who have owned both the Comp M3 and Comp M4 which do you prefer? Looking at it $ wise they are only about 50.00 difference in price if you factor in the Comp M4 comes with a mount so im not worried money wise just in the sight you prefer.
    Thanks

I prefer the M4. But the M3 in a LaRue or ADM mount is also very solid.

M4 has 10+ years of the Army beating the snot out of the M2 & M3 designed into it. M3 in a LaRue mount is still an excellent choice.

For me the AA battery of the M4 seals the deal. As well the on/off switched has been beefed up considerably with more NV & daylight settings to choose from.

This may be a dopey question...

(I have a lot of AR experience, but not much Aimpoint experience)

Is Aimpoint's QRP mount a bad option?

Is Aimpoint's QRP mount a bad option?

    Short answer is no.

Longer answer is as follows: The original QRP (quick release picatinny) is a mil spec mount issued with the Comp M2 to the Army. This is known as the M68 CCO (close combat optic). Hundreds of thousands are in service and hold/repeat zero very well. The big beef folks had with the QRP is the knob stuck out a bit farther than some would like it to. It was made this way to be easly manipulated (one hand, gloves on, etc).

The Comp M4 is the new M68 CCO for the Army and comes with an integrated mount called the QRP2. It has a shorter knob that is larger in diameter lowering the profile of the mount while still allowing the optic to be removed quickly. The clamping force to the rail has also been increased. Repeat to zero is still excellent.

Many people choose aftermarket mounts because they address issues with OEM mounts such as lowering the profile of the mount, having a bottom third co-witness, battery storage compartments and so on.

Another example is LaRue's locking throw lever. It does not use a bolt crossing from one side of the receiver to the other. Threads and bolts can stretch over time.

Bottom line is Aimpoint mounts are widely used in the military / LE communities and are very effective with high quality. Could you find a need to go with an aftermarket mount? You bet.

Im a big fan of the M4 model(have 3 of them),but i just got 2 ML3's and besides the ajustment knob not being as strong as the M4 and not useing AA batterys(The battery life is still very long on the ML3 models) i dont think im loseing that much for MY needs. But I dont think i(or anyone) could go wrong with any Aimpoint product in terms of getting a QUALITY red dot.If you can get a good deal on an ML3(or M3) then i say go for it.

A friend of mine sent me a M4. Sold it to me for a price so low you'd say I was lying and told me to pay him, "whenever". I like it alot! I haven't got to shoot it but did point it around a lot. Sight picture is typical Aimpoint. The mount is so much better that anything Aimpoint has put out before. I wonder if it will return to zero. Now I have to get a Larue mount for my ACOG so I can switch back and forth. I guess I'll wait to order to see how the Aimpoint's mount work to see if I need to order one for it as well.

It's a great mount but isn't Loc-Tited from the factory as they don't know if you'll be using the spacer or not. Blue Loc-Tite works and will hold the mount together great.

IMHO anything that's screwed onto an AR should be in the very least blue Loc-Tited on.
