I would say no, since the OP asked for a sub-moa barrel. I understood it to mean he was asking about a precision barrel. I've always believed, perhaps incorrectly, that on average, a chrome-lined barrel will not have the intrisic accuracy of a non-lined barrel. That said, I don't know WTF I'm talking about.

Thanks for that great response, a0cake. My google-fu is clearly weak in this instance... or maybe I trust trust you guys more than the regular errornet. I'm actually looking for a chrome-moly barrel because I do want it to be extreme cold cabable, and I planned to get it nitrided. Your extra information give me a warm fuzzy about my through process.

    5.56 can be sub-moa.

Dont get me wrong I want an accurate AR, but I also pay attention to how I use the gun. Are you wanting it to shoot sub-moa just because? If I can aim and know its gonna hit within 6in or so while being as fast as possible, Im happy with that. If Im trying to drill the same hole, I usually go to a different gun.

Most of the barrels mentioned though should net you some gains.

In my experience Lothar Walther makes excellent AR15 barrels, as used by LaRue Tactical, and at one time Daniel Defense. I have a 16" LW50 stainless barrel that is easily sub MOA with match ammo. Similarly I had very good results with BCMs SS410 barrel, my 18" SPR was also sub MOA with match ammo.

I want the rifle to shoot sub-MOA so that I know that all of the effective error is my own. None of that "is it me or the tool" thing.

In answer to another post, when I said I was leaning toward 77gr bullets, it is an attempt toward more effective performance at range. Obviously, the physics of the shot trumps my preferences.

If your shooting 200 yards or less 50-55gr flat base bullets are more accurate but we are splitting hairs at this point.

Centurion sells a Douglass barrel (a true Mk12 barrel turned down by the same guys as well) cut to 16.1". This is a great barrel. I know HCS has the same Mk12 barrel and I'm sure they'll cut it down as well.

For my next rifle, I'm debating between that barrel and the lightweight Noveske SS barrel.

Proven combat techniques may not be flashy and may require a bit more physical effort on the part of the shooter. Further, they may not win competition matches, but they will help ensure your survival in a shooting or gunfight on the street. ~ Paul Howe

I think the real question you're going to run into is how much you want the final weight of the carbine to be, and how much money you're going to spend.
All the above barrels can hang under MOA, so what may make the biggest difference is the optic selected. Any of these in 16" or 18" (or even 14.5") will handle it fine - it's a question of which contour and optic you want.

For my part, I'm torn between the Centurion 16" or getting a Noveske Recon contour 16" Intermediate and getting it dimpled. Still trying to choose between optics as well (NF 2.5-10x or S&B Short Dot)

    I'm impressed

Second, this is obvious but keep in mind that the best barrel in the world won't make M855 shoot straight.

There is a lot of good factory ammunition out there, like the Black Hills offerings featuring 77GR Sierra Match Kings to name one example. You will likely find that this (or similar) factory match ammunition will shoot under an MOA out of a high quality barrel. However, to achieve maximum precision, you will have to do some load development to suit your unique equipment.

The following is a short list (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE) of just a few places to look at for good Stainless AR barrels. Some of the following are considered Match Barrels, some are high end production grade. Some are cut rifling, some are button rifled. You will need to do your own research to figure out exactly what you need and want (length, contour, etc). I'm just giving you a few places to look. In the right hands, with the right ammunition, all of the following are SUB-MOA capable:

    -WOA
-Ranier Arms UltraMatch (From Shilen Blanks)
    - Krieger
    -Lilja
    - Hart
    - Douglas
    - Bartlein
    - BCM SS410
    - Noveske

Finally a first post with all you need to know.

Well done, and I am in complete concurrence with above suggestions and opinions.

Chrome lined bores are very often less accurate than unlined bores. Not terribly so, but enough that those looking for pure accuracy will see enough difference to avoid them. For a carbine used for up close and personal confrontations, the actual difference isn't worth worrying about. In that, you're not mistaken. Another option for you:

    Nordic Components - Lilja

    - I have one on my 3 gun rifle. Sub MOA from the bench, very unpicky on ammo, I've been impressed.
