I don;t have an Aimpoint but do have an older Ultradot on a pistol.

when I turn the intensity from 1 to 10 the dot gets bigger. Is this not how the Aimpoint stuff works?

If so... and say you zero at top of dot on setting 3. Where would top of dot be on say setting 7. Won't it be Zero + maybe ~1.5 moa?

The actual dot is no bigger. That's physically impossible.

But, you will perceive it as bigger because of all the extra blooming around the edges; with the perceived size increase, the border of the dot will also appear fuzzy and indistinct. The effects on the shooter's perception of POA and how it ultimately affects POI are as you describe.

When I'm zeroing, the dot gets truned down to the lowest intensity setting that allows me to see it, and I'll put up my rear BUIS, because looking thorugh a narrow aperture helps the eye with depth-of-field, making the edges of the dot appear crisper (less "fuzzy") than they might otherwise look. You can still do that with both eyes open and focusing on one's your target, like you're supposed to with a RDS.

I'm kind of in the same boat as the OP. I went with an M4s because I have astigmatism and I thought the smaller 2 MOA dot would be more beneficial. Now that I've used it some I'm second guessing that decision and considering trying to trade my M4s for a T1. Decisions, decisions...

I made the exact same swap. While I haven't zeroed the T-1 yet, I really can't tell a difference.

No matter the brightness, I see about a 8MOA red "splat". It looks just like a red sticker burr.

I can also shoot M855 into 4" @ 100 all day long with my "splat".

I'm thinking seriously I'd like to do it. Did you sell your M4s and then buy the T1 or were you able to find someone who wanted to trade with you?

It has to do with the brightness and bloom thing - with my eyesight (extremely good, but sensitive to brightness and shape a touch more because of it) to pick up the dot quickly especially through iron sights, I tend to have to bump the brightness up one step from where I'd prefer to have it, while the slightly larger dot I do as well with the lower brightness. Almost negligible difference, but that minor gradation is also why the H1 works better for me.

With a magnifier, the smaller dot lacks this issue entirely, and it's back to the same benefits of a smaller subtended angle.

The main selling point for me on the T-1 was that it has less clutter than other models (less body mass blocking the field of view). I was initially worried about the dot being too big, but this is before I knew anything or had any experience (thank you to those that recommended it to me).

    Get a T-1 and don't look back.

Do you have glasses or contacts to correct for an astigmatism? Mine has a halo effect when I'm not wearing corrective vision, but still very usable.

I have been real satisfied with the T-1's if you need a finer aiming poInt just dial down the brightness.

I sold the M4s and bought a T-1 w/ Larue lower 1/3 mount from G&R. I would've bought it directly from LaRue because I'm out of Dillo dust but fifty-sumpthin' bucks in tax ain't worth it!

Anyway, I went to the range today to try it out and I was super impressed!

I don't think the T-1 gives up anything to the M4s and it is damn sure noticeably lighter and smaller. I honestly think the bigger dot is better for me because I was able to turn it down more and it looked pretty crisp to me [outside in natural light].

I also shot with my irons through the T-1 and the smaller tube didn't hurt anything. FWIW I shot my best group today (@100yds, prone on the mag) with XM855 and irons.

I was using Federal AR 223 (55grn) and XM 855.

I'm not a great shot but I was able to hold an honest 4-5MOA @ 100 and 6MOA @ 200 prone on the mag with both ammos (yes I shot two big, ugly, nearly 1 foot groups at 200)

I zeroed it at 50 using the middle of the dot as the POI. Worked fine out at 200. I'm gonna shoot a match with it tomorrow and I don't see any reason it won't do everything the M4s would.

If this little sight is as tough and lasts as long as a big one, I don't see any reason for a big 'un.
