MA judge orders forced abortion and sterilization.

Judge ordered this mentally ill woman to not only get an abortion but also to be sterilized. WHAT THE ****?

At least the appeals court had the sense to say 'no!'. Judge should be disbarred and removed from her post immediately.

Is this judge a Romney appointee?

The unfortunate thing about this is that this is actually becoming quite common...lower level judges just doing whatever the hell they want, with no repercussions. It happened here in Michigan regarding a firearms case recently...judge said before hand how she was going to rule...I mean, why even bother at that point?

Wow... very nice. Appeal? I mean seriously would you even have to say that?

No. The judge retired after 20 years (according to the article you posted) so that puts her pre-Romney

Is this even within the scope of our government's powers? Is there any sitaution at all where our gov could succesfully force a person to have an abortion or be sterilized?

Commerce clause. It is always the Commerce clause.

What the hell...this isn't the 1920s or 30s...we are way past this type of thing. North Carolina is in the process of settling these type of cases via 'restitution'.

Without choosing sides, this is a horrible situation which illustrates how difficult it can be to make the "right" decision under complex circumstances.

The pregnant woman suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and, when not taking her medications, was incapable of understanding she was even pregnant. Forget about her ability to make the necessary choices regarding pre-natal care, abstaining from drugs and alcohol, etc., to insure the health of the child should she carry this pregnancy to term.

And the medications she requires to manage her psychiatric diagnosis pose a threat to the health of the fetus. So to safeguard the fetus, the woman has to be kept off her meds, essentially sentencing her to remain "insane" for the remainder of her pregnancy.

Couple that with the fact that the woman's parents, who are already taking care of another child she had previously and is incapable of caring for, have pleaded with her physicians and the court to prevent her from having another child, as the parents are the ones who will likely be responsible for the care of another baby.

The folks that see clear-cut solutions to these kinds of circumstances are generally the ones who won't have to deal with the consequences of those decisions.

My heart goes out to the people caught up in this kind of nightmare.

    Lightbulb

That judge should lead by example and self-abort.
