Well if you want to work out with it and get in better shape because its heavier. Its crap compared to a good AR!

The AR15 over all is one of the better rifles ever made.

The Sig makes one heck of a club.

Why did Sig never import their actual good rifles like the real Swiss 550, 551, etc here in big numbers? Import laws? Or did they figure we wouldn't buy enough to make it worthwhile?

With the import ban, you are not going to get a real all Swiss 550 or a 551, and even if it could be imported, the price would be much higher than what SIG is selling their 556-based 551 clone for. The 556 uses standard AR magazines while the 551 must use Swiss mags and a Swiss stock.

I'm not even convinced that the "real" Sigs are all they're cracked up to be. I lump them in with the FNC and other similar guns that have a perceived "better" because they were/are hard to get and the few that did get the crowed about their superiosity so loudly that others started to believe it. I'm all for listening to the guy with hands-on over the guy without, but when the guy with hands-on is probably doing weird shit to his rifle in his mother's basement with the lights out, it starts to get a little biased.

None that I'm aware of. Perhaps the opportunity to practice more failure drills.

Banned in 1989 and only a few hundred came in along with a handful of thumbhole sporters after the fact. To bring one in now it would have to be neutered to the extent of the HK SL8 and SIG doesn't seem interested in making a specific "US importable" rifle that takes only a 10 round magazine that would cost three times what an AR costs and nobody would buy.

I own both a FNC and a 550, and while I "like" the FNC for all of it's "rarity and uniqueness" it is quite a long way from being capable of what an AR-15 can do.

What makes the SIG so interesting, besides being made of rarium, is that it can do a lot of the things an AR 15 can do in terms of accuracy and performance.

For specific details from a source other than a US collector you might find this interesting:
