Please briefly comment on your opinion of the feeding reliability of a STG-556

I bought a new condition cased Gebirgsjager (mountain huntsmen) version today at a gun show. I was impressed with the apparent quality and beauty of it. Searching the internet, I find differing opinions about the reliability (particularly feeding) of this weapon. What say you experienced gentlemen? Is it a keeper or should I resell it? Will it be a collectable or end up in the bin with other undesirable knockoffs?

Considering that Steyr is going to be bringing their real AUG back to the US market later this year (supposedly by the end of the second quarter) an STG isn't going to be worth anything as a collectible weapon. Personally, I don't like knock-offs, so I'm waiting for Steyr...

Also, this should have been in the "Other Assault Rifles" section....

    Here we go again.....

Reliablity has been hit and miss from people who actually own an MSAR (STG and E4 models). As an STG owner myself, mine has been 100% reliable in all forms of weather and use for the past three years. However, your particular model is far too expensive IMO for what you get. Since MSAR is non-existent right now and parts are nearly impossible to find, I would either find a REALLY good deal on one or just wait for word from AUG (unless some other company takes over production of MSAR)

In production or not, I'm pretty sure PJs still has several AUG A3s.

I had several MSARs, I liked the rail options. I had one built by Athens (First productions series AFTER the Limited Edition model) and it never had a problem. I had a few from later production runs and eventually each one of them had FTF or FTE problems. Not habitually, but often enough to not trust the rifle.

And even though that first production MSAR never had a problem, the performance of the others caused me to be distrustful of it as well. At the end of the day I didn't have faith in any of them so despite some cool mounting points I eventually got rid of all of them.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

    One, to be exact...

I don't have the spare cash at the moment, or Pete would have none in stock....

My STG-556, S/N 116XX has been abosulety reliable with amber mags, the balck 42's have issues. As SteyrAUG said they are hit and miss, I just got lucky and I have a slew of spares.

    Piss poor, in my experience.

We put one head to head with the FS2000 (a gun with its own share of issues) and it failed miserably. Failure to _____ , just fill in the blank with whatever, odds are the STG did it.

There are some good ones out there, but I sure as hell wouldnt chance it. If you want a more capable bullpup, get a real AUG A3, an FS2000, or just wait on the Tavor.

I really, really like mine (black STG556, later production). But at 100 rounds, it's still an untested infant (though that will be rectified soon). Shoots straight, and feeds everything I've put in it so far (SS109, Wolf steel, and M855).

I like the rail option, and mounted a Trijicon Tri-Power on it. Looks mean as heck!

    Have you shot yours yet?

I have an E4 that has around 600 rounds through it.Zero malfunctions so far,and I like the rifle a lot.Shoots Wolf just fine.Only problem I ever had with it was when the batteries died on the Eotech last Saturday at the range.
