I'm a TA11H-G user also, but I have not run close range drills with it on a timer. I'm sure it's measurably slower than an Aimpoint, but I'm using it on a SCAR-H so I am biasing the system toward reaching out a little bit more. It's not that I can't hit anything at 500 with an Aimpoint, because I can and have, but I do like being able to see a little more detail.

I wouldn't have it as my only optic. If I could only have one I'd have an Aimpoint.

    OP,
One of the great things about this site is the people. Try to get together with others who are local and try out their setups. There is probably at least one guy within 50 miles of you that has every optic you are considering. Make a day of it, have some fun, try them out with some drills like the 3x5 cards earlier and by the end of the day you'll have a better idea of what you want. Of course if you're like me you'll probably want it all but at least you should have an idea of what to get first.

Out of curiosity, in regards to the Acogs why is it I see little application of the TA44s or 2x models? Its always TA33 this or TA31/11 that etc. Granted the 1.5 models still have the same draw backs inherent to their larger bretheran but its still about as close as your gonna get in similarity to an RDS in the Acog platform atleast. Im not suggesting it is comperable to a T1 but depending on its intended application it offers quite a bit.

So unless one is working at primarily extended ranges where 3x or 4x cogs would be more beneficial ones probably better off with a low power variable or RDS. So why not the TA-44? Eye relief is greatly improved over the TA31/33s etc and its lighter than a variable optic.

Idk, it just strikes me as an optic with lots of potential but is being under utilized.

This is just my opinion, but I was never drawn to low magnification ACOGS. You still have eye relief issues as their not a RDS and you don't get much magnificaiton to make it worth it. The TA33 is the only compact ACOG I like and I do like it a lot. If your going to go lower than that I say go with an Aimpoint micro (H1 or T1) I prefer variable power optics however. I find that magnification can be usefull for a lot of things other than just shooting way out. It can allow you to see into windows where suspects could be hiding, it allows you to see better in lower light situations.

    Maybe 'cuz it's $300 more than a T1 with a mount.
And that's with no base on the compact COG.

So you still have significant draw-backs inherent in the ACOG line, but without the magnification to offset those draw-backs.

And I completely agree with Alaskapopo on his last post.

Agreed. For instance - a place where I regularly train has some interesting features like large pole-barns and buildings that you can see into from several hundred yards away. With the TA11, I can get a pretty good look around inside that pole barn from 200+ yards even peering into the dark from a lighted outdoor environment. With the Aimpoint, I would only be able to see the open door and however far the angle allows the ambient sunlight to penetrate.
