I'm embarking on a .308 700 SPS Tac build too. The Hogue will be replaced with a
B&C Medalist 2958 before I fire the first round through it (I prefer the more traditional varmint-style stock). Maybe there's a Manners or McMillan in the future, I'll see how the project goes.
Looks like I'll be going with the SWFA SS HD 10x42 in Leupold Mk 4 rings/1-piece base. I plan on bedding the base to the receiver since I'm hearing that will probably be needed.
For loads, I'll be working mostly with Sierra 168 MKs. In a Rem 700RS in .30-'06 I once had (22" sporter weight barrell), it shot 150 grain Nosler ballistic tips into clover leaf groups - I may give the 165 BTs a try.
